OOps... you did. Admit it. If not to me, at least yourself. I was on youtube the other day watching a bunch of clips on Bill O'Reilly blowing up (temperwise... alas, no one's done the world a favor and fragged him yet.) and it occured to me, that in watching links like that, I was in some small way, fanning the flames or padding the wallet of him and people like him. I've come to realize that O'Reilly is a lot like Howard Stern (another person who ought to do the world a favor and walk off a cliff). I'd bet dollars to doughnuts that a large portion of his "audience" can't stand him, but just wants to hear what he's going to say next. Like rubber necks passing a bloody crash on the high way, we just can't seem to look away. Even people like Keith Olbermann, a guy who absolutely cracks me up and most of the time seems spot on. As my uncle (who's a closet neo-con) puts it, "it's not enough for him to report the news, he has to be a part of it." Anyone miss the good old days (man I feel old now) when the news was something you watched expecting impartiality? Or at least level headed delivery? I don't know. I guess I just fear we feel like we have to make the world exciting and controversial or people will change that channel, which is a shame because when you stop and really look at it??? the world really is already both of those things. I mean just look at Darfur.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darfur_conflict

(not that that's exciting, but more controversial as we've done basically... f**k all. We've just given up feeling we can have any sort of impact for the better on the world. We're content to cower in our living rooms each night, watching the latest American Idol as the world rots around us?

I agree one hundred percent, the world has become so cold, I mean people seem to want to see bad things happen, and plus everything is about religion anymore, even the news is, everyone keeps pushing just one view on everyone, and if you don't follow them they act like your Satan worshipers or something, it scary, I mean it too. that's why we have to get the right wing nuts out of power, and the white house, and for good,( I wish) but I know that cant happen, frankly I'm afraid that we wont get them out this year, even though you would think that Obama had it in the bag already, I just don't think that my fellow white Americans will vote for a black person for president, that includes Dems, I think they would rather see McCain win just because he's white, then to see a black person and some a woman as president, even if it means having basically the same kind of president(Bush) for four more years, it disgusts me, anyone else?

Your comment reminds me of a book I was this close (holding his fingers really close together) to picking up the other day. I may still do it.

I think, or at least I really hope you're wrong about white America refusing to vote for Obama because he's black but one never knows. Really hope he gets in. Even if he can do a 1/4 of what he's promising (as I feel the first 3 years will be spent cleaning up Bush's mess, I'll be very impressed. Thanks for the response.

Hi Yankee!!!!

This is also a fear of mine. Sometimes, Dems that I really don't know personally give me the impression that that may be what they are going to do. It makes me sick but we can only hope that they come around before Nov. I could go on and on about this but haven't we really covered it all before. If fear of the unknown is that great then I hope these people are voting with their brain and heart!

But how anyone can vote for someone more or less representing the past, is beyond me. I think we have look at our prejudices and attitudes and take that step into the new world. It could be the best move we ever make!

See 1980 election. That's what that was and this is. The only thing preventing a repeat is concern over the war in Iraq. If only we'd funded alternative energy research over the past 27 years the way we funded Nuclear, Oil, Coal and the other conventional energy sources favored by corporate America. True patriots don't back doing the same old things that reduced our true national security. Energy independence needs to be also decentralized. Thank you.

I agree, I did the same exact thing and started watching Bill O'Reilly clips on you tube even though he gets on my nerves. I even mention him on my myspace as some of my favorite shows. He's one of those people you love to hate... like Jerry Springer or something. Since the election Ive been watching him almost religously, he's part of my new line, O 'Reilly, Larry King, then Andenson Cooper. Then I finish my day with a lovely dose of Stewart and Colbert. I think watching right wing shows and listening and reading their opinions makes me a more educated voter. I can't tune them out. I also can now make better arguments. It's like playing basketball and watching the other teams tapes to get to know their offense and defense. Sometimes though, I feel like O'Reilly is Darth Vader, my thirst for understanding luring me to the dark side.

Trust me charliemac

There is little chance of you being sucked into the dark side. Your intellect and your basic sense of justice won't permit that.

Keep groovin' my young friend.

Your old geezer friend from Canada - cheering for Obama.

Charliemac - I am impressed that you watch O'Reilly - it is smart to know what the 'other side' is up to. He makes me so mad, there is no way I can watch that show. On the other hand, I never miss Jon Stewart or Stephen Colbert!

D_voted - I am sure you and many, many people in many, many countries are hoping we elect Obama! I am thrilled to see that he is edging ahead of McCain in Ohio...there ARE some Democrats in this state! lol
