Given a choice between the two I would go to Texas!!!!! Wide open spaces. Wouldn't want the big city life. Just a little peace of heaven out on the plains!

I was from the east coast in NC and I wouldnt recommend there with little kids the educational systems stunk. My girls were so many years ahead they got lost in the schuffle..

if you move to ft worth or dallas, not much difference between much of NM and there.
Now, in houston, we have a little rain now and then, sometimes the winds pick up, but that makes the wind powered turbines spend faster.
and we have the BEACH near by. Chill out on the cool sand (jan and feb..its cool), and back off the beach you can be reminded of some parts of NM with the sand spurs that prick just like cactus. Schools in the outlying areas are better than the HISD, but like other towns, states, hell, the whole dayumed country, grades aren't really improving, we just lower the standards so more pass and we can get more federal funds.
overall, i think you'll like houston mo better

from Galveston Texas, live in Jacksonville NC.... I like Texas better but because of my friends and family.... and very much dislike activites in Jacksonville... I would pick to other states myself I really want to see the higher northeast US or northwest one day... but both lack in recreational things also depends too on what you like too do or what in particlar you looking for I do know the school system is better in Texas than here I agree with that....

How about west coast?
Oregon is great.
Not much snow if you're on the WEST side of the mountains.
Decent winters. East of mountains is BITTER cold.
