I 100% agree with You. I think it was best illustrated by the athletic superieriorty of Lsu & Fla over a couple of pretty good ohio state teams the last 2 yrs or by the fact that Arkansas had 2 top 10 draft pick running backs & could finish no better than a middle of the pack finish. I follow the Vols religiously & can tell You as can anyone who follows the SEC that a trip to Vanderbilt or Ole Miss ca be just as tough as playing Florida or LSU everone has great athletes & is well coached. Playing anything than Your A game = a loss pure & simple.

I don't think we will see anytime soon SEC teams getting beat up by any unknown minor universities like Michigan did last year by Appalacian State. I think the Big Ten has been exposed as a weak conference, and no longer a factor as a serious threat for a national championship if an SEC is their opponent. IMHO.

Give it a year or two. Now that Michigan has a new coach and a new playbook things will be different. It might take them a couple years to adjust though. I agree that the SEC, right now, is the conference to beat, but I still gotta cheer my home team(I'm only 30 minutes from the Big House).
It will be interesting to see what happens with the wolverines. I personally think that a shift in college football has been on for 15 yrs or better. The better quicker athletes want to play in a more up tempo offence favored by schools in warmer weather climates as opposed to schools where wheather often dictates a more grind it out type of system where wide receivers D-backs etc with pro aspirations don't get on as many clips on highlight reels. Michigan & Ohio St will almost always be near the top if the polls due to being the big fish in a small pond (all due respect to Joe Pa & penn St.) & because The SEC ACC & part of the Big 12 & Pac 10 will beat up each other & knock each other from contention as was the case last year. But make no mistake the best football being played is south of the mason-dixon line I know being from the south I can be accused of regional prejudice so if anyone out there has a different POV I'd love to hear from You & see it discussed here.

With all respect to your Ohio St. Buckeyes, they would be at the bottom of the heap if they were in the SEC.
You look as good as who you are playing against.
We need a college playoff system and get rid of the BCS. Let the BEST teams always be the winners.

Amen to that. It's a pity that the Ohio St USC winner is almost guarunteed a spot in the BCS due to the dropoff in competetion once the conference wars begin in earnest barring a miracle like stanford pulled off over USC last year.

I am a loyal Buckeye fan and support the Big 10. Going thru some tough times right now, but The Ohio State Buckeyes will respond, hopefully Michigan and Penn State will follow...along with Wisconsin, Illinois, etc. GO BUCKS!!!

hey, i will support the doing away of the BCS and let's go to a playoff! Can't understand why we still don't have one. Imagine all the awesome matchups we could see. Even the non-BCS reps would add to the mix. Boise State a couple years ago was one of the best games i have ever seen...and who did they beat? oh yeah, oklamoma, from the vastly over rated big 12.

Well said timetogolf. I know Michigan is just starting to retool under a new coach but Utah along with Fresno St. looked like they could hold their own athleticly in any conference in the country.

I think a playoff would be great but I don't think it is really an option because of the amount of games that would have to be played in a season and this is college and would be hard to extend the amount of games they would have to play to accomodate a playoff system.

Screw the BCS and a playoff series ... Just give the #1 rating to USC every year and more often than not the right choice would have been made. (posted after the SC - OSU game)

usc...play in the sec,,,u couldnt hang every week
Honestly ... SC would love to play in the SEC ... wouldn't change anything 'cept make all you Southern Boys quiet and a believer (this would give your traveling team a chance to play in good weather and in a world class venue).
You will notice that SC does not lineup cupcakes for non-conference games (unfortunately, this year the cupcakes are all in the conference), ... OSU, Nebraska, Auburn, Arkansas, Virgina Tech, Notre Dame (of old) ... et al.
Most people hate SC, a snobby, rich, private university in a great location, playing in a great stadium, a winning tradition, arguably and historically (along with Notre Dame) the most storied college football program in the US.
Due to the above, SC is targeted every Saturday. Any team that can beat SC ... can and does claim a winning season. I used to be a journalist and have covered many different colleges ... I have yet to see an opposition team and fans get so hopped up to beat a team as they do against the Trojans. Every college has a rival or two ... but every week is rival week for SC, regardless of who they face. Every week the Trojans have this giant target painted on their backs ... every opposition fan and coach has a GPS and is calling in air strikes whenever they see a Cardinal and Gold jersey.
For SC, playing in the SEC really wouldn't change anything for SC but it would make the SEC a better conference (lol), (and introduce the SEC to real and explosive offense).
I still remember the 1970 USC vs. Alabama game ... the game which broke the racial barriers in the SEC. For that ... the SEC should build a monument to the Trojans.

No question USC is on a serious roll these days, but lets see them play the schedule Arkansas has this year, Texas, Alabama, Auburn, Florida, LSU. (thank goodness not Georgia and Tennessee too) all in the top 10. (3 recent national champions.) Other than the Trojans you never see another Pac 10 team ranked very high for very long. Why did LSU lose 2 conference games and still win the national champioinship? USC is not gonna do that because the PAC 10 is nowhere near the league the SEC or even the Big 12 or Big 10 are. I love our Hogs but they are gonna get pounded several times this year I am afraid, and so would USC playing in the SEC. So USC pounded Ohio State. That is par for the course for the Buckeyes in big games.

Whatever your team or conference, college football is the best sport on earth, much more exciting than the NFL. But it is also the only sport on earth without a playoff to determine a legitimate champion (Division I that is). This due largely to the bowl games and the money they generate for their specific locales. There is no doubt a playoff system could be devised that would work - every other sport at every level has one - why not DI college football? Money is the answer. Go Hogs!!!

Its a toss up between the big 12 and the sec but i would give it to the big 12 because of the overall quarterback play in the conference. The quarterback position is the most crucial on the field and the big 12 far and away has the best. GO SOONERS.
