My TASK BAR Tool Bar shows multiple "Language Bars"... It appears to slow my system down. What causes this, and is there a fix for it?

Thanks for any help!

Which browser are you using?
Firefox?
Internet Explorer?

I have never been aware of this feature...

How long have you had this new addition?
Did you download a new program?
Sounds like it may have come in on piggy back with
a recent download???

Hey, Wine ~

I'm using 128 bit IE7.

I first noticed the problem a few months ago while using "Dragon NaturallySpeaking". I got rid of the multiple entries by uninstalling the prograam; but noticed that the multiple entries have reappeared.

Haven't downloaded anything new. When I right-click Task Bar and place the cursor ovet "Tool Bar" I get the following in this order:

ADDRESS
WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER
LINKS
*LANGUAGE BAR
DESK TOP
*QUICK LAUNCH

The (*) indicates the only tools that are checked. After Quick Launch, there comes an unending list of "Language Bar" ~ and all of them are checked. I've tried un-checking them, systematically, but (as I say) the list appears to be endless.

Have you opened the language bar then gone into the preferences/properties and set it to turn off/not display that tool bar? Haven't got time to play with it right now, but will do so later.. There are options in the toolbar itself to turn it off though..

I'm assuming that you're talking about the taskbar on IE7.
Have you tried going to tools\internet options, clicking on the
programs tab, then clicking on the manage addons button.
You might find it there.

The taskbar has nothing to do with Internet Exploder. It's the START button, and everything to the right of that... (In simplistic terms..)

One question, do you have multiple keyboard settings enabled (i.e. English, Irish, United Kingdom, etc.)?

Umm

At the bottom of the screen you see the language bar just to the left of the taskbar notification area, is this correct?

If you do not use the features enabled with the language bar then you can turn it off and never notice a difference. You may want to try your dragon naturally speaking program after disabling the language bar, it has been awhile since I used that program and I can not remember if it required a feature of the language bar or not.

anyway. . . For windows XP

Close the language bar on your taskbar by right clicking and deselecting it from the toolbars as you have done before. Then disable it by following these shorthand instructions . . .

start menu
control panel
regional and language options
languages tab
text services and input languages (click the details button)
settings tab
preferences (click the language bar button)

Now you should see a window labled "language bar settings"

There is a trick here:
For some reason if I do not deselect all the options the language bar returns to my taskbar like a malicious stalker. The way I deselect all options is to

select "show the language bar on the desktop"
deselect all other options in this window
then deselect "show the language bar on the desktop"

click the ok button

click the ok button in the window "text services and input languages"

click the apply button in the window "regional and language options"

click the ok button in the window "regional and language options"

The language bar should not reappear. If it does then you have a program that is turning it on automatically and you will have to find out which one it is.

Another program that can hog your resources is symbolised as a magnifying glass. I don't use it. I uninstalled it through the add remove programs application from the control panel and I disable indexing through the administrative tools services application. That is a completely different subject though. If you do see that magnifying glass, try getting rid of that first. It will annoy you more often than the language bar.

I hope I helped you.
