Is this the computer that I sent to you?
It was state of the Art...
and fully updated when I sent it the last week in May.
Did you get on high speed internet connection?
Without dial up it would be next to impossible to get
remote access.

That would be nearly 3 months of use, I can remember crashing the op system in as little as 2 days, thought i knew everything..erasing system files, registry entries deleted never to boot again. I learned that new people on computers should always have a partition like C/D and have a program like Drive Image 2002 installed and store a IMAGE of C drive on D drive so when you crash it never to boot again you simply install a floppy and can successfully reinstall C drive right back to the way it was when the image was made, there are other image programs that will do the same thing but 2002 does NTFS fast and flawless

When the gifted computer arrived from UPS it was broken, a/c to OP.
So I am positive it is not 3 months of user mess up...
as she was working with UPS damage control/complaint
for more than 30 days...
possibly never got it solved,
and that alone is distressing!
what a mess to have to deal with,
from my end, without the actual
damaged computer.
It was packed in an original DELL computer
box and packaging materials should have protected it. The materials
were inspected by UPS claims man.
It was insured for $700.00, including the flat screen monitor.
Monitor not broken, thank goodness.
I am not sure what happened to the claim from UPS...
I hope it has been followed up on by OP or her family.
The tower, had an open plexi glass side, with blue
lights in it, state of the art installation
of programs and features like DVD recorder, she would enjoy.
I hope she will post the problems she is having...

Happy to help, but I am in the dark...so many miles away...
did you get the computer repaired, or replaced?
Did UPS settle the claim?
Several people on DH made the machine possible with their
offer of assistance...could not have done it without their
contributions of time, and materials....I gave some and they
gave some....Geoff put it all together, tested it out, and
gave you the operating system...and helped me ship it out..
(heavy!)
so where are we at now, today? Is it running?

During the shipping with UPS the computer it was damaged.
The clear side panel on the case was cracked/broken,
upon investigation the main board was also broken,
a few people have LQQKED at it and could not figure it out
for Tyler it took him 5hrs but finally was able to figure it out (5hrsx70.00=300.00)
So,.... right now we need to replace the main board.....? it was a rare and expensive board. We have to repair this computer with in $700.00
I am having heart surgery tomorrow 9/5/08 @ 9:00 a.m. est. Prayers are welcome!
We have been working on this comp. since 3/08.

That is not right, a computer wizz takes 5 hrs to figure out a visually cracked board doesnt work, so then he is not much of a wizz, you could have nearly bought a generic brand computer for what you have spent on diagnosis there , I would be arguynf that one

it was visible that it was cracked...it had a cooling fan attached to the
plexi glass wall...ARE YOU SAYING THE MOTHER BOARD WAS DAMAGED?

Don't mean to butt in, but if the motherboard is socket 775, you can get a very nice replacement motherboard for less than one hundred bucks. The processor should still be good.
