I got a copy of Vista and when the HD on one of my computers went TU I decided to try it.
I really don't like it and I haven't done much with it yet.
The default interface looks like it came from a comic book.
They've carried the "Are you sure?" popups to a ridiculous extreme
It failed to properly auto-detect my network settings and I had to do it manually, with about 6 more "Are you sure?" popups intervening. Gads, my Win98SE machine does a better job.
I will admit that it did recognize everything and loaded the right drivers, something that XP doesn't do but my network and HDTV cards are newer than XP
Vista does support the built in RAID controller on my motherboard which XP doesn't.
Right now it's in the process of installing 145 updates
It's 64 bit Ultimate with SP1, yes I pirated it but I'm only testing it out and don't plan on actually doing anything with it. When/if I decide to keep Vista I'll buy a copy but from my OOBE I'll probably be putting XP back on it in the near future and tossing the Vista DVD and waiting for the next OS.
I still think 98SE was the best OS McSoft ever released.

I understood about, oh, 2% of that lol.
My experience with Vista - ZERO - thank god.
I bought my laptop last summer in preparation for my on-line degree program. My university doesn't support Vista - still - and since they gave me XP Pro and Office Suite as part of my tuition it didn't pay me to pay extra to get my laptop WITHOUT Vista.
Sure, I had to wipe it all out and start from scratch and finding a couple of the drivers was a real bear, but that is why I have techie friends to help me out lol. I am great at following instructions (well, most of the time - ROFL).
My university even gave me Office 2007 (which I really don't like much..........but hey it was free).
Any way my dear, good luck with that.........I guess the updates will be done downloading and installing by Monday???

Good luck with Vista. It's not where it should be right now, for sure. Drivers ought to be available with minimal hunting though.

funny the board wouldnt accept xp raid controller, wrong drivers?? not turned on in bios, I had thought of doing the 64 bit thing too but not everything is wrote in 64 bit for programs so until things get better i will wait and work with the system i understand , though the time is coming that a steep learning curve will have to be taken

vista can be a pain in the butt, you can turn off the are you sures in the user accounts under "uac". it still has too many things going on in it and the "locked administrator account" is kinda useless unless yo unlock it. oh yeah, dont forget that improper shutdown in Vista is as bad for it as it was in ME.
JMO...rock 2000 pro or Ubuntu.

MSI motherboard "Designed for Vista" They never released the drivers for the onboard RAID for XP though it works fine in EIDE mode. RAID 0 seems fine under Vista.
I've got the replacement drive on the way, WD does have a quick response for warranty. I'll probably wipe the drives and reinstall my legal copy of XP when I get the drive. I just wanted to play with Vista a bit.

I'm still playing with the settings and such. At least I got the cartoon desktop to go away
Well, I got the TV card working and kind of lost interest

well atleast you got your board set already to run Vista, I have played on alot of friends computers with Vista but feel kind of lost in it as I never really had enough days to gain experience with it.
It seems a shame to buy a new board to run ata 100 drives on raid when sata/sata2 drives are cheap and readily available, as long as you can live within Vista

The SATA raid works fine in Vista but so far that's the only advantage I can really find. Seems to be a big enough resource pig that I can't run the TV card full screen without it skipping and jumping. Updating the video driver only made it worse so I rolled it back.
Oh well, Monday it goes back to XP

"Seems to be a big enough resource pig"
512MB RAM just to be able to install and run like frozen poop.
