Today, we're happy to announce the release of the beta version of a
new open-source browser: Google Chrome. We encourage you to download
it and give it a try (Windows-only at the moment).

http://www.google.com/chrome/?utm_campaign=en&utm_source=en-blog-Gmai...

Google Chrome is designed for speed, security, and stability with a
simple and intuitive user interface. You can find out more about other
Google Chrome features here: www.google.com/chrome/intl/en/features.html

Just a few of the cool Gmail features that come with Google Chrome
are:

- Application shortcuts: with this feature, people can place a
shortcut on their desktop to Gmail. With this, users can open Gmail in
its own window, one that looks like a regular Windows application
window. This is useful for those that don't want the clutter of the
address bar, bookmarks, etc. For more information:
http://www.google.com/support/chrome/bin/answer.py?answer=95710
- You can add "[blocked]" as a search engine in the address bar, thus
allowing you to search your emails directly from the address bar.
Instructions are here: http://www.google.com/support/chrome/bin/answer.py?answer=95653
-- so, once set up, you can type "gmail to:me from:larry" into the
address bar. Once you press Enter, a Gmail window will open with the
search results already loaded.

If you have questions about Google Chrome, please visit the Google
Chrome Help Center at http://www.google.com/support/chrome. To learn
more about why we built Google Chrome, see our Google blog post:

HI friends..
I am using Vista Home, Media Edition on one machine
(new installed OEM) Quad core machine 4, gig of RAM

Vista Business on the older machine (was a purchased upgrade)
Dell Dimension 5150 with 2 gig of RAM

I installed it on both...(solving another driver issue with my router
yesterday, (Lynxsys) (sp)..so I was not paying attention to Chrome.

I am boxing up my laptop with many problems and returning it for extended repairs
on the fan again. Windows XP PRO..with a P-4. Too hot for a laptop...
they have replaced the mother board, hard drive, fan, and so forth.

This time the optical drive will not read the Windows Disc for a repair
of windows...

Well, now about chrome!

Anyone else trying it out this week end?
Karen

Gmail is still technically in Beta and has been out for years. Chrome is good, Firefox is good, and the new IE8(Beta also) is good. IE8 is the best at not taxing your system, and Firefox is best from a security standpoint. But you really can't go wrong with any of them.

The great thing about Google Chrome is that it is open source, and the vast potential behind it for other developers. Plus the whole concept behind it utilizing separate processes per tab, the java script engine V8, and sandbox which only responds to user initialized requests.

So far, from like what I see. Very fast, very minimal, works with my employer's intranet, unlike FF3, and supports flash. I like that you can drag the tabs into their own seperate windows. I like that you can drag seperate windows and make them a tab. That's kinda neat. So far, I give it a solid 8/10 on the "this is beta software" scale.
