I've never met a rottie i didn't like. bull dogs are just misunderstood. I have always loved Mastiffs. Never had a problem with pitbulls or akita's. I have met a few mean chows.
I think we need to keep in mind that any dog can and will inflict pain and injury on a human. I've met poodles that were mean and aggressive. where I live there's a shiz tzu and a "Frasier" dog (what are those called) that are meaner than snot. Bob...the frasier dog comes to my dog and snarls at my rottie like he's a big boy. Lucy drags along a fat lady on a 500 foot leash and attacks. My mom was bitten by a little terrier of some kind.
It's all in how you train them and discipline them. I hear all the time about my rott "Is is friendly" or "She looks hungry". it's a rep they have because of stupidity and lack of training by other people.
Now, my rott will take care of business if she has to, but i'm more worried about little Bob and his temper.

you're absolutely right. we make them mean or not. some of it is instinct for them or just lack of training. some people just don't act like the leader. dogs will lead if not led.

i posted this just to see what people thought .. i used the dogs above due to statistics released last month.. and the weird thing is akitas are rated most human aggressive... they have the highest number in biting humans. they say they are generally one person dog.. and rate one of the lowest in temperament testing 64%...while pit bulls are highest in temprament testing at 93 % rotties are next highest.... for small breeds poms are considered very aggressive. i personally own a staffordshire terrior who is the best pet i have ever owned.... any dog will protect its domain.. but akita does rate highest in unprovoked bites

I've heard that about Akita's too. The number one fatal dog bites I heard are from one of the most friendly cute cuddley big dogs...the Golden Retriever. I heard that from a man who came to my door once with a 6 foot 2x4. he wanted to tell me people didn't want to walk by my house because my dogs barked. I had 2 rotts who had never gotten out of their invisible fence. But everyone else's dog could and would get out of their yards and come into mine to play with my dogs. How hypocritical is that. So i told this man "dogs bark" to which he replied, "but they're rotts." I proceeded to thank him for clearing that up...I was completely unaware of that and that rotts don't or aren't allowed to bark. It's breed discrimination.

I have been bitten by all kinds of dogs, but the most frightening was being attacked by a rottweiler while walking
home from work. It was so traumatizing that for the next year, I could not walk down that block.

MOST of the time now the dog is a direct reflection of the person. Idiot psycho people have dogs who are the same. Humans have changed dogs over the years turning hunters into fluffy pets or skeletally deformed things that can barely walk (bulldogs). Rotties were cattle dogs but a**holes get them because they are big and black and usually have no tail to wag so the look mean. ANY Rottie owned by a psycho moron is going to be questionable as far as trust. They are expected to be mean so they are.

Akitas were war dogs and seem to be very macho type dogs. Very difficult for women to control because they are sexist and feel superior.

PITTS were bred to fight - bulls, bears, each other. You don't take a dog that has survived in that kind of environment and turn it into a safe family pet overnight. They can be nice dogs if they are trained properly. You just have to remember that they have an adrenal gland the size of their left lung and when / if it purges, something nearby is likely going to be torn to shreds.

I want to speak up for chows. My first pedigreed dog was a chow I bought when I graduated from high school
and was given 100 bucks. I love them! I don't care for the really wrinkled faced ones, prefer the old fashioned,
lighter boned dogs. Chows are a one person dog, They are cat like, very clean, very adoring of their person, but
like all the spitz type dogs, hard to train, and need an owner willing to spend time with them. They are not a dog
that can be allowed to roam, period. But at home with their person, they are affectionate and happy dogs. They
were used as guard and hunting dogs, and one has to realize this before bringing one into the household. I myself
really like a one-person dog's nature.

Hello, to answer your question.... I do not drive, so I walk or ride my bike everywhere. I was walking to a bus stop
in LA, and a dachshund (!!) began to bark at me from behind his door, got excited, burst thru the screen and bit
my leg, breaking the skin! Actually, the first dog bite was on the farm, our part collie bit me as a child in the face, I still have the
scar near my mouth. . Another bite happened when I was riding my bike and a mixed breed dog ran after my bike barking and
jumping, bit me on the leg. I yelled at owners, they were quite scared and said, "oh she never does that...." and the
most recent was the rottie, I was walking home from work and the dog was in his yard, just casually walked up
to me and laid into my arm! Thank god it was winter and I had a heavy coat on, as the power of those jaws
felt like my wrist was breaking! The owners came out and called him off, and then refused to talk to me
about the bite. So those are my stories about dog bites. Growing up in the 1950's on a farm and in a small town
in Ky, there were packs of stray, unneutered dogs. There are few kids my age then who did not get bit a few
times from a stray or unneutered dog. Oh, another bite... I was picking up some milk at another farm, and their
aussie shep male zeroed in and gave my ankle and hands some good nips. Big old blue guy with balls the size
of oranges.

To answer your comment about my liking chows, I bought my chow from a good breeder, he had already won
in the show ring. I took him to obedience training. Those dogs who bit me were not managed/trained well.
Any dog can and will bite. It is up to owner to train and control his dogs. Dogs left in the yard, bored,
territorial, will charge and bite. Any dog might chase a biker or runner and nip. I train all my dogs but
take nothing for granted. Once I was walking my110 lb German shep on a tight leash across a street, and a woman crossing
the other way reached down to ruffle his head, I had no warning, and he closed his jaws on her hand. Any dog
will bite.

Oh boy good question since both the Pit Bull and Chow are very Agressive. I have seen a lady who is pregnant that has a pitbull puppy for a pet. To be honest I would be scared to even have a Pitbull around a child since you don't know how they can act and they can certainly be mean.

Also don't forget that some people not all have Wolf -Hybrid's for pets too so that is another to watch out for.

Like I said I am happy with my mixed breed dog of a C*ckapoo anyday.

lindabear i have a pibull... if u know what one really is since oit bull isnt a breed its a nick name for fighting dogs...but anyway i have had him 4 yrs and my granddaughter who lives with me is 2 and he loves her .. lshe does whatever to him and he doesnt ever go after her... ur misundestood, they will protect their home and family and any dog can turn on anyone... its all in dog ownership responsibility.. any terrior has a natural instinct to hunt.. but the need to know their limits... most dogs arent born to be aggressive to humans... AND just so u know.. pit bull can be refered to up to 34 bull terrior breeds....
wow heres a killer thats looks like hes ready to bite a childs head off!!!! this is what humans to to the so called pitts... look not pretty huh!! this is a result of human treatment to a animal..... now whos the monster?????
