I not saying it is that way for everyone but I myself find it very hard to find women to date because I have 2 children. When I tell thme that I am a single dad women look at me like I am a freak or something? Does anyone have a story to tell or a comment on this thread?

In my opinion, i think if you both have kids, it's better to relate, but i get the same thing from the guys.

Wait a minute guys. I know how hard it is for us but we must pick up and go on. Im a single father of 4 kids that dont live with me but I have had a few dates that went over well. To solve this delima I would advise to date a single mom or a divrcee, or a widow that has kids. It would be easier for the 2 of you to relate your experiences. Dont give up. After 14 years my relationship went south after my second tour in Afghanistan and I didnt give up. We will find the one for us sooner or later. Better soon !

yes i see where u r coming from but i have my kids all the time except for 2 weekends out of the month, even women with kids kind of dont wnat to be in the stituation where the guy has kids, havnt dated a divorcee but there has to be a easier way i am not here looking for a mother for my kids i am looking for someone for me my kids r well taking care of by all means, my children should not play a part in the dating aspect of it its not like i take the kids with me unless maybe the women has kids too and we go on a "play date" with the kids.

I'm a single dad caring for my little ones 24/7. I'm not so sure that single moms have an easier time with the dating scene than single dads. The norm has always been that custody went to the moms so it wasn't uncommon for a divorced woman to have her children living with her. This trend is changing however, and more and more fathers are winning custody...By the way, I have said this many times before I hate the word "custody" when it relates to children. Custody has the connotation of ownership like children are some kind of chattel which they are not. I prefer to use the word full legal and physical "parentship" as it is our job not to "own" but to love and nurture our children. Perhaps because of this new trend it may just take some women by surprise so it just seems to be more trouble for single dads You folks are all still young so your chances are greater of finding single moms and/or dads with children to find. The women in my age bracket have all raised their children and are looking for a travel partner so I don't stand a chance....lol. Anyway best of luck to all of you and stay focused on the children after alll they are the ones that matter.
God Bless single parents

Can a single mom weigh in on this one?
I can't speak from a guy's point of view, but I don't think it's necessarily "harder" for a single father to date than it is for a single mother. I think "society" in general has placed a stigma on single parents, and women who have children and are looking to date are still seen as some sort of "gold-digger" on the prowl for a new man to support her and her kids, and men with kids are looked upon as only wanting a new mother to take care of their children.
Also, "older" single parents have it a little harder, I think, because most potential mates in their age bracket have already raised their own kids and are now at the stage in their lives where they want to travel or just go out and enjoy themselves, and they certainly don't want to start all over and help someone else raise theirs.
One of my best friends, my age, has a daughter in her second year of college. Other people my age are grandparents already. My kids are 7 and 8. Just a slight gap there, huh?

Well i'm a single mom of 2 boys, 3 & 6, and I also have a hard time dating. I think the guys are scared off by not being able to come first. (Plus both my kids have ADHD & ODD which makes them very hyper) so that might be another reason. Not looking for a father, just maybe a male role model, since their dad isn't in their life, is that too much to ask for?

i agree with u i am not looking for a mother 4 my kids either i am doing a great job of that on my own but it has been for years not common for the "father " to have custody of the children and society has bot accepted men raising the children they r still use to seeing the "mother" raising the children and there was a comment about guys not wanting to date a single mother because the guy was not first. Women with no kids that possible does date a guy with kids will lok at the situation that well there will be no future with him wanting to have kids with her when she is ready and r not ready to have children in their lives at this present time do u see where i am coming from on this?

Yes I do. I think this along with other topics should be addressed up front before the relationship is allowed to continue. If these issues are not discussed in the beginning they could easily become major stumbling blocks in the future.

Gentlemen, I hope you didn't think that *I* meant that either one of you were looking for a mother for your kids. I only meant that it's still a stigma society as a whole places on single fathers (and on single mothers). I'm sure you are both more than capable, and willing, to be both mom and dad to your kids, just as I am to my two little boys.
What everyone on here is looking for is companionship, in one form or another. When you have young children living at home, it goes without saying (or it SHOULD, IMO) that those kids come first before anything and everything else, and people without the responsibility of children (both male AND female) sometimes have a hard time dealing with that. Plans have to be made in advance, and can change without notice, when you have kids. When you're single, or your kids are grown, you can take off for the weekend on the spur of the moment. Leave enough food for the cat and a clean litter box, board the dog, and you're off. Well, you can't do that with kids.
On another note ... I'm rather amazed at how many 18-21 year old/reasonably well-adjusted (so they say)/reasonably attractive people there are on here. Does no one go out and mingle in the "real world" anymore, or is that just too much like work?

Rottielvn you hit the nail right on the head. I didn't think you were implying that guys (or certainly not me) were looking to re-mommy our children. But that implication has been posted many times before in other threads
