Wanted to ask the group "What does country living mean to you?"
For me its about the freedom to take things at my own pace, fireflies, swimming holes, and sunday supper.

I work in a city--I always had a shore house--now I have a farm to add to my places to enjoy on days off. The shore has its benefits--the country has its own benefits--I like it all because it is new to me. I like the space to have cats and chickens and critters that roam around out here.

It means appreciating the feel of rich soil sifting through your fingers... having a love for all life forms.. going out to the huge veggie garden while the dew is still on the plants with a cup of coffee to see what has flourished over night.. taking care of pets and stock. Alot of work for most.. but nothing like sitting on that porch swing as the sun goes down and listen to the whipperwills and the soft breeze flowing through the tree tops

Long hours, rough hands, dirty fingernails, short pay, and getting my a** kicked by critters. Wouldn't trade it for the world!

It means when I am so tired and dirty from work it doesnt matter if I want to sit on my porch and listen to the frogs, It means I have to go pick up the partial apples that the deer leave on the ground, It means not haveing to worry about the smog or noise of neighbors. It means if I want to go pull weeds there are a to be pulled and no one to notice if you don't get them all.

no neighbors, sound of the wind blowing threw willow trees, our cows moo'n, the dog barking at a car pulling in the drive way, jar of ice tea on the back porch, bomb fires at night, everyone over for a BBQ.

All of the posts I've read have made me absolutely yearn to live in the country....(except the ones about peeing on a tree) I would love to live in place where I can have a few animals....some chickens...a goat, a miniature horse...- a pond - frogs, a quiet serene life.
I have wanted that all my life and now - at this age - how do you actually make that dream come true? Am I just too old to even think about it??? I don't even know where to begin to find out how to do it. ....and .... To be honest...I'm scared to death to try and find I made another mistake! ..... But my heart tells me it's what just might save my life...

Tootsie, You will never know until you try it. I'd suggest meeting some country people, and go visit them. Some people fit right in, others just can't, or won't adapt. Usually, within a week, you know. Good Luck!
