I installed AVG. It seems to work OK on quick scan however, when I try to run a deep scan, it picks up 32 viruses and locks up. Once it hits that 32nd virus, nothing happens. Can't delete them or anything. All I can do is exit and re-boot. Any suggestions?

I am open to any and all suggestions,
as I really must defer to those that do computer tech for a living.

I would uninstall that AVG program,
and install *superantispyware*, a free version,
and see what it comes up with, #1. Please tell us the results...
then we can tackle it based on the two program reports.

Please consider this...you have such a new computer.
Did you operate for 15 seconds without
your anti virus in place when you first set it up?

The very first thing, I was told, with any new computer
and a high speed line, especially
is to get the anti virus in place. THEN begin to set things up.

I reported a couple months ago, that I was using a
free 30 day trial of VIPRE.. You might like that 30 day trial program.

I liked it and it was a very small resource user...(little slow down).
I did not pay for it at the end of 30 days..
however it is still working in limited capacity. It checks things and alerts me.
I am still thinking about it...
(if it were always free, I would like that it better!)

Well I run 3 computers , and used to always run image backup programs , now I do none ,I am even so lazy as not to install free anti virus, even though i have the proper anti virus to install, I roam thru questionable zones all the time and still acquire no viruses , for sure they are out there , but for me it is easier to reinstall than to try and delete something nasty, viruses are not all that easy to pick up unles you are treading thru known bad sites , and as far as the 15 second rule , I beg to differ , as I run with little or no protection most of the time , just because of laziness , and am still able to be on line day after day

1 sled..how is it that you can fly under the radar, and esp. with
a high speed connection, without protection? No anti virus, high risk zones???

That is like having a sexual interlude without protection....
you must be very lucky, or out of bullets........
now which is it?

Now I defer to you...and waiting your answer.........
I run 3 computers today....4th one down at this time,
not sure I want to re-activate it....

I run 3 as well and just getting a labtop setup on top of that, this very one has been up for about 8 months on line with no protection at all, its the one I do all my downloading with too, but i do know what you atr saying as I used to spend all my time removing trojans and such off the computer the kid and wife used to use , and that did seem to be all the time, I took the AV off as it was deleting files that LOOKED like a virus, cant explain more on that, so i spent more time undeleting than removing viruses so now i just run a lean C drive with all the stuff i need to play with, and am prepared to reinstall at any given time

you can also run the superantispyware in conjunction with the free version of avast. i usually set it up/update and schedule a boot scan. it can be tricky as a boot scan will allow it to check normally active files since it is not in the operating system but on the bad side (for non technicians) it can cause instability if they are deep in th eoperating system and you remove htem

If you have high speed internet, check with your provider for anti-virus. Most high speed provides provide free anti-virus software that otherwise would cost money. I use CA Security Suite which is provided free by my provider although I was using it prior to getting their service.

I am puzzled, why you re-installed avg free, when super anti spyware found 212 problems, and I assume repair them. Are you able to run both programs?

the malwarebytes.org is interesting...thanks for reminding me
about that site..I used that a month ago, when we had annisboss as part
of our group...she has since deleted from DH.
