In the last two weeks I have had three very high end clients call me to tell me they will be making payments on over due bills and to suspend all services til spring.

One was a client who for the last five years, just spent, spent and spent. I know she is good for the money. But I'll miss out on some nice year end income, since she also cut out holiday decorating as well.

One was a client who was hard to please any way, no matter what flower I planted it was never the right one, too pink, not big enough..........Won't miss her, just not liking the fact that she still owes me for a garden I put in in August.

The third one called me back, paid in full and had me resume gardening for the rest of the season.

Also, it seems a lot of people in the green industry have been laid off, I had six calls today from people lokking for work.

Anyone else.................

I am feeling the crunch. I am a banker...........not a good time for me even though I work for a triple A rated bank, our stock has tanked by $18.00 a share. Need to find another way to pay that college tuition. Not a good time, but at least I still have a job.

Fingers crossed you keep the job. Had two bankers call me today willing to work for ten dollars an hour, both have been laid off in the last month.

It is scary times.

My brother started a dumpster business a year ago because he was having a hard time getting dumpsters to his building sites. Now he is doing more garbage business than building.

the carpet business is booming as always this time of year, as folks get ready for the Holidays, so yes I have felt the crunch, but there is a light at the end of this tunnel I'm sure.

My nephew called me the other day, moaning about that fact that the stock he bought this past year was almost worthless. I reminded him that he has only been investing for a year, he is 24 and has a lifetime to recover his losses.

He called this morning to let me know that I was right on the money when I told him to sit tight and take things in stride.

Hey, I know nothing about investments, but it was nice to sound smart to my nephew.

At least I am not alone (which I already knew that I was not), and not being alone in this crunch does not make me feel any better about being in the crunch

In fact it saddens me even more knowing that suffering is on the rise

Being an Optimist here, I know that the crunch will pass.

So far I have not felt it. I work for a company that works on the steath fighter jets for the gov. Unless they cut back on the testing of them, I will not be affected.

Yep, feeling it here in California! I work for a water remediation company; they treat stormwater and groundwater so it doesn't kill all the fishies and duckies. We just had to lay off a couple guys due to lack of work. Companies don't have the money to afford our services but will soon find out that the environmental fines that can be imposed are much more than we would have been to begin with. I'm constantly getting calls from vendors wanting payment when we are still waiting on the money from our clients that's needed to pay those vendors! It's a catch-22.

Personally, I'm just struggling because I've been going through a divorce, moved to a new apartment, now paying everything on my own, as well as still paying utilities and insurance on a home we can't sell!!! I've been looking around for something part-time just to make a few extra bucks but that won't leave me too exhausted to do my main regular job. I get gigs now and then but it's not steady.

On the up side, man, I'm loving these gas prices these days!!!!!

I have worked for a major oil/gas company for 25 years. (no rock throwing, please - I don't set gas prices). I have also lost approximately 1/3 of my stock investments. We will all be feeling the crunch very soon. With oil prices dropping almost $90 a barrell, multiple industries will be affected. Smaller production companies have already begun to cap their wells, or plug up until prices go back up. This will have a HUGE impact of the trickle down companies, especially in smaller communities.

Last week I heard CNN say that approximately 750 car dealerships have closed in the last 2 weeks. Don't blame that on the oil companies, blame it on the banks. We are about to
reach the same situation faced in late '80's. Banks are finally catching up to their poor lending practices of the last decade and it will affect all of us. If Joe Plumber can't get a loan to expand or revive his business, everyone will lose their job.

In addition to above factors, we are offshoring American jobs at an astonishing rate - with no penalties to the companies sending the jobs overseas. Has our government lost
their fkn minds?

My personal spending habits have become more conservative. I am trying to reduce credit card debt and limiting my vacation travel. Something I typically do twice year to reward myself for working so hard thru the year. In addition, I am single parent putting child thru college at an out of state school. Which also breeds that next semesters college students will have a VERY difficult time getting student loans at affordable rates. Students dropping out of school because they can't afford will greatly affect the ecomony of this country's future.

Good luck and God Bless to you all. Do your part and pay attention to your local, state and federal representatives. These are the people that REPRESENT you.

I am retired and have a recession proof home-based business marketing a health product that has no competition; therefore, my income has not been effected. It is residual income. The product is a monthly consumable one and has a re-order rate in the 90's. The business is in network marketing...which is said to boom in times like these. I have been with this company for almost 5 years and am so fortunate to have found it. It has blessed me health wise and wealth wise.

I feel ya txlady, i pulled some retirement last year to return to school full time, a modest investment in some oil property, the dividends, were enough to get by on while i persued this endevor, and as much as we all hated the $4.oo gal gas, the diffrence in cost between what i spent on gas to get around vs income is substantial, where my fuel bill has droped 150 from those days, my income fell well below what i was bringing in a year ago, and the remainder of my retirement that i could count on for back up has turned into a turd. I have been contracting some counseling work (i never thought i would ever say this but thank goodness for insurance companys) and working in the shop to keep the coffers filled but my reserves are at a point where i cannot afford additional help(kind of a limmited skill base out here)so I may be putting my additional education on hold, a fellas gotta eat
