Moving to the capitol of Washington, and wondering is the employment issues, the same, as small towns? Or is there more employment, cause it's bigger?

Well...the State has a hiring freeze and we are heading into a recession. And Olympia has a reputation as a tough town to get a GOOD paying job. But I know a call center called ACI that has so much turnover, they are ALWAYS hiring...and they give you an 8 week or so paid class first. And I've seen a lot of sales help kinds of jobs posted on doorways at stores in the last couple of years. And even some manager trainee jobs posted on doorways as well. And you might check "careerbuilder com" for the area as well. Plus Olympia has a lot of college students filling jobs and students move around a lot...so eventually something should open up ! But the recession might accelerate job layoffs everywhere as well. If you have a stable job right now, that might be something to consider.
Good luck !

All depends, lots of competition from Evergreen students in the service industry. Plenty of jobs in health care, retail is hiring bigtime for the Xmas rush. Construction related is way down. Check Craigslist, lots of temporary office/admin there. State hiring is still there, lots of programs for entry level, economic disadvantaged, etc.
Best of luck!

Just saw a huge "Manager Wanted" sign at the Dollar Store in the strip mall on Cooper PT RD. tonite; if you are interested. They are apparently having a tough time finding some person qualified. They have been looking for a while.

I work in healthcare, so it wasn't difficult for me to find a job in Olympia. There seem to be a lot of retail-type jobs here, that pay a lot more than I ever imagined. Then again I am from another state where the minimum wage is $6.15 an hour so the starting wages are a lot lower.
Good luck with your job search. This may seem like a silly question but have you searched the internet? Sometimes people will post on sites like craigslist before they advertise in the newspaper.
If worst comes to worst, you could always go into healthcare!

Yep. Healthcare is pretty hot in the Olympia area. And job demand is just going to keep going up generally in Healthcare as the old farts get older(recession-proof too!).
And frankly, us old farts can't get enough of pretty young nurses etc ! I'm not there YET, but by the time you'd be educated and experienced, I'll be needing a few myself ! So yes...look into healthcare careers!!

Hi Red. I lived in Ony for a few years and still visit friends there. I'm in Oly now and I think you will love it here and have better luck with employment. Good luck and if you want that tour lifetime offered maybe we can all get together and do coffee or lunch while were at it.
