 Lets see...think I started playing around 1970 or 71. My older brother got a guitar and then decided he wasnt interested. I picked it up and loved it. Started playing Kingston Trio/Peter Paul and Mary stuff. Then got to wondering where THEY got some of the tunes. Well,from The Weavers and Carl Sandburg...and where did THEY get them? Well Pete Seeger, before he was in the Weavers, learned tunes from folks like Bascomb Lamar Lundsford, in Appalacia. That got me to learning and really getting into Appalacian string band music, The original Carter Family, and fiddle tunes that go back a few hundred years...
Lots of good old music out there, and there are lots of people still playing it and keeping it alive.
And now that YouTube exists, I can hear 6 or 7 versions of any tune I want to learn. SWEET!
