How bout NASCAR? I heard this morning that as many as 1000 people working on NASCAR teams could loose their jobs by the time the 2009 season starts.

Hey Sandy. Yea, a lot of sponsors are cutting back on how much money they give to the teams.

Rof,

I heard the same thing about the downsizing in NASCAR. The arena football league has just cancelled their entire season and retailers who are everyday names will not exist anymore after the December numbers come in. It's going to get very ugly out there!

Question . . . Many, and I mean many years ago I recall going to a dirt track which I think was in or near Marshville to see a race that Dale Earnhardt won before anybody even knew who he was. He won this race in an old number 8 white car of some kind. Am I dreaming or was there or is there a dirt track in or near Marshville?

Like a lot of things from "years and years" ago, the dirt track is long gone.

Well i must be the NASCAR blacksheep,I much prefer CarolinaPanthers and Tarheels.I used to cook hamburgers at Rockingham for the Jaycees,I never have cooked so many.We would have two piles on awarmer of about 150 in aluminum wrappers and they would be gone in less than five minutes during an accident.

Rof, At least I wasn't dreaming about that dirt track in Marshville years ago.

Gritz,

I'm not a big NASCAR fan either although I follow it. The ticket prices are way too high and with our economy the way it is the sponsors see the writing on the wall. The Panthers have got a tuff one coming up Sunday night against the Giants and the Tar Heels should go almost undefeated in hoops although I'm not a Carolina fan.

I've heard of the NASCAR cutbacks. It's a shame that is happening. It's a shame that all the plants are closing and so many people are losing their jobs, especially here at Christmas. With people out of work, there's no money and they won't be doing the things they are use to doing.
Rof, I remember the dirt tracks around here and they were fun to go watch. True, they are gone now like so many other things that's disappeared. I really hate to see NASCAR fall, but what can people do about it? I was really surprised when I heard how many Richard Petty was letting go. Soon it may be a thing of the past also..... Truly sad it is...

Can anybody confirm that the game time for Sunday's match between the Giants and Panthers has been changed from 1:15 to 8:15 ?

I understand it was changed because of the importance of the game (important for the teams) since both teams have 11-3 records. Meaning it should draw a BIG television audience.

NASCAR may downsize or even disappear but I don't think racing will ever go away 'cause when you have two guys doing anything there's bound to be a contest building. Maybe the dirt tracks will come back. Maybe it will go back to just the driver-owner and a couple of friends as crew... These times are a-changin'.

Yeah, I agree with you on that. Things are changing and not for the better. There 'good ol boys' are long gone it seams. That was the good ol days when we went to the night dirt track's and watched our family or friends race. Oh the memories....
