I have been having a great time making wool felted wallets and purses out of old shrunken sweaters I get from GoodWill. I first construct the wallet or purse then decorate it with wool-roving and beading.

I buy the felt, then make accessories and embroider on them, love the book "Heart Felt".

I'll check out that book title. Can you post some of your work here so I can see what you do? Thanks!

I have a cute easy felt bunny that is decorated with embroidery and small buttons. He appeared in one of the
women's mags, either Family Circle or Woman's Day a few years ago. It took me a time to find wool felt by the yard
but found a site on computer that ships quickly. I also used the book Heart Felt to make a great eyeglass case
with embroidery. I think you would like that book, it is fairly new, just bought it last year. The bags are much
like yours, and the projects range from simple to more complex, but not overly "cute" , which I don't care for!
Like you, prefer more artsy/funky unique designs.

Hi all, I do all types of fiber arts and then some! I do wet felting (TRUE FELTING) using sheeps fleece, a washboard, soap and lots of friction. I also do needle felting which uses washed fleece, locks of wool opened up...you use a spongelike lap board and needles with barbs all over them (these are commercial quilting needles used in factories that make bedding) thru repeated pricking of the fibers and layering and arrangement of them to shape the item im making, eventually all is felted... I use this technique primariily to do sculptures (animals flowers or decoration on wet felted hats, slippers, mittens et).
I have also done reclaimed wool felt crafts, technically called knelting as the yarn is knit first then thrown in washer to blur the stitches and create psuedofelt.
and then there are the books out that call themselves "how to felt" books that show knitting and crochet patterns the person is to knit first then throw in washer to do some controlled felting/shaping. I did make a nice hat this way but find it way too time comsuming... why spend all those hours knitting when you can take washed locks of wool or wool roving (carded wool) and go right to the felt part? lol...
do any of you knit or do other fibercrafts like handspinning, dying, or weaving? (i do)
respectfully
bunny

Good on you, just read a book about the real felting. One can certainly make all kinds of interesting projects, like
beads, masks, figures. I have tried most every needlecraft and crochet is the one that rings my bells, with just
a bit of sewing and embroidery. It's good to meet so many here who work with all the needle/fiber arts!
