I just watched President Obama's address to Congress tonight. I'd like to hear any thoughts you might have. Me personally, I think he hit it out of the ballpark.

I thought he knocked it out of the park..and Jindals response was pretty lame.If he is a 'frontrunner" for 2012 they are in for a beating!

You got that right, skysoldier. Jindal was standing there blathering on that "Because of Katrina, we're suspicious of the government". That's real intelligent. Someone should remind him that the administration during Katrina was (wait for it) Republican.
Towards the end, Jindal shamelessly promoted himself and how he has helped Louisiana.
What a maroon. He's the best the GOP can do to rebut President Obama?

If I was him I'd fire my speech writers.Any mention of Katrina was a big goof up and he came off to me like someone trying to mesh some folkiness with Republican talking points..there was nothing new or even interesting, owing partly to his really dismal delivery. The Republicans are running to the right when most of America is going the other way. They are quickly becoming a regional party with a shrinking base geographically and demographically.I thought one very telling scene was during the "standing ovations". It appeared that a lot of Republicans were on their feet--not so.What was happening was the overflow of Democrats were filling part of that side of the aisle!!!

Jindal sounded like a first semester public speaking student! You are right, if he is the front runner, they have a lot of work to do. What on earth were they thinking letting him mention Katrina? I really thought he might have something to offer but I didn't see it last night.

Obama's speech was great! It's so great to hear president who can string words together!! Ha! I know he went in different directions but there are many, many things that need to happen in this country and we are going to be streching it thin for a while. I was a good night. I always check Fox after these things and I really didn't hear anything too bad. Just the usual stuff. So even they couldn't get to stupid about the evening. Good news all round.

The Republicans had better decide to get on board. I agree, they are going to loose their base.

I watched FOX last night specifically to see what they would say. They seemed to have been bowled over by the astonishing eloquence of our new President as well as his mastery of the subjects. They even went so far as to compare him to Ronald Reagan, "The Great Communicator". I expected great vitriole but President Obama did such a skillful presentation that he pretty much left the FOX pundits speechless. Of course, I should have expected this reaction from people who, over the past eight years, have come to consider a speech...

I live in Houston but have VERY STRONG TIES to Louisiana having lived there until 2006. Jindal claims to have done a lot for Louisiana.....he only had to show up and that was enough! The Democratic Governor at the time, Kathleen Blanco was way out of her league unfortnately. She did nothing right....her best decision was not to embarass the party and run for a second term. Louisiana is a red state so Jindal was elected.

Didn't get to hear our President....glad to hear that he was on target!

In a word: WOW!

I agree with you all; he hit it out of the park.

Our president is a gifted speaker. But he is also a smart man who can think critically -and can think about more than one thing at a time. After 8 years of W, I, Like jeannie, am thrilled with someone who can speak in complex sentences!

And I also admire his work ethic. He has been working hard to run this country since he was elected. And he hit the floor running.

Thank God! We so need this.

Peace, Pam

Thanks to all for your input. Skysoldier, thanks for explaining why it appeared the Republicans were giving "standing O's". I got excited, thinking it was the Republicans.
Jeannie, ny59, stl1, lakc, and Pam...thanks for the insight about the speech, Fox news, and Jindal. I love that "Booby Jindal" remark. I think the President has some really bold plans, which is great. We need a visionary to lead us out of the darkness.
So Bush is about to go on tour? Yikes. He walked into a Dallas hardware store the other day, and said "I'm lookin' for a job" (ha, ha). What a comedian.

I can't believe GW is going on a speaking tour! I was just talking with friends, not very long ago, and we were saying that we bet he would never speak in public again. Boy, were we wrong. Who will go hear him? This should make for some great Saturday Night Live Sketches! Ha!
