I bought a new Gateway computer. Been looking for a publishing program to work with it. Bought Publishing Pro and when I do a project the text prints but the graphics will not. It also does that with Microsoft Works that came on the computer. Is it the printer? Printer is several years old ( HP Photosmart 7760) and prints well other than when I do my own project. I have a card making program and it will print the ready made cards from it. Doesn't make sense to me.

If Gateway sold you a new computer with a factory installed version of Microsoft Works that does not print graphics, then I suggest that you start with Gateway tech support. In this situation, Gateway should provide tech support even if you didn't purchase it separately, because any program they provide and install on the computer should work and provide full functionality (including graphics). Moreover, solving the problem with Microsoft Works will probably also solve the problem with the Publishing Pro program you installed. Gateway can talk you through the steps you need to take over the phone, which is more effective than anything I can write out here, because phone help is interactive in real-time. Even if you have to pay for tech support, you should probably do it if you really need graphics from either or both of the programs you mentioned.
Here is some general information that may help you understand the problem. You said the HP printer did not come with the Gateway computer, so the problem is probably either the printer driver, or the Windows configuration for the printer. When you first turned on the computer with the printer connected, Windows should have detected the printer and asked you some questions. It may have asked you to pick the printer from a list by make and model number. And, it may have asked you to install a printer driver from a disk. If you did not have the original HP printer installation disk, or if you skipped this step then that is your problem. If you did have the disk and installed a printer driver, then it was probably too old to work properly with the operating system that came on the Gateway. Windows Vista is probably the operating system that comes installed on a new Gateway computer. Due to the age of the printer, the printer installation disk probably does not contain a Vista printer driver. Most likely, you are going to have to download and install a new printer driver from the Internet. If you are not knowledgeable enough to do this yourself, then you will probably need more help than I can provide here.
This leaves the question of why does your card program print graphics. Depending on what you did when the computer first detected the HP printer, it's possible that the computer defaulted to a generic printer driver. A generic printer driver may be adequate to meet the needs of the card program, but not good enough to meet the more graphic intensive demands of Microsoft Works or Publishing Pro. I hope this was of some help.

What he said....
Plus you could have a corrupted printer driver as well especially if your system has crashed during a print job. Most of these things can be corrected like he suggested. Put your install disk that came with the printer in the CD-ROM and install it again.
Go to HP's website and see if they have an updated driver for your currrent opearting system. A photo printer should be able to print anything you throw at it.

Guys, thanks. I got out my Vista dummies book yesterday and I have no idea what I did but problem has been solved! I had, as you suggested, downloaded the driver for Vista but maybe I didn't have it installed right. Haven't tried the microsoft works but Publishers Pro is printing out and I even reinstalled my old Print shop and it's working! Very excited as I go a lot of graphic work. Saved me some money allthough I am still dreaming about the wireless printer I saw the other day. Since the laptop is wireless I would be able to print from it with out hooking up a printer. Maybe after Christmas!

I am thinking that the driver for Vista I downloaded wasn't installed when I first did it. Who knows? Anyhow, I can get back to my projects. I have several flyers to do for up coming events.
