raven and tazman----totally disagree with your posts in this public forum as the solution-----the only true way to get to know one another is to be interested and courteous enough to respond to a request for chat in a private forum or even better over a cup of coffee----the public forum for discussion between two people is, in my opinion, silly----sorry for the disagreement, but i felt it needed to be said

i believe they didn't mean a one on one here but just to express some opinions on different subjects to kind of get an idea what you are about. of course, once you make contact with a specific person, then emails, messaging, phone calls and face to face meetings should happen.

thank you. i agree face to face is where you really learn about someone. i am just saying you get an idea what someone is like by what they post. and then you can decide if you want to contact them. you say i seem pleasant and yet we have never spoken one on one. that is my point.

I was not talking about the best way to get to know someone. I was talking about the first step to let people know who you are and what you feel about things. No one is going to decide to marry some one from posts on an internet forum. But it will give the opportunity for interest to start. Then you take it from there. Privately
Simply posting an I'm available note in a chat room seems counter productive to me.

The public forum posts are to let someone know a bit about your views on different subjects, in order for their deciding if they even care to try a chat or phone conversation with you. Many people will not risk that sort of contact, without knowing a bit of your view on things. I, for one, would never give my phone number out to someone, whom I knew nothing of their views on life.
The forum posts are to reveal a bit on your views on differing aspects of life, in order for whomever to decide if they want to risk talking with you, in chat or the phone. Todays world has entirely too many crazies too talk with just anyone!
Vera & I exchanged over 300 emails, before ever meeting. To me, that shows interest. Then, decide if you want to go farther with it.

southernfeller---i was born and raised 10 miles from you and believe me there is no secrets in fairfield, illinois or any other of those small towns---lol-----i still think you guys and gals are making this difficult----i do not advocate posting in chat rooms as tazman believes i said-----i believe a simple search will provide a group of people of the opposite sex----their picture will tell you whether you find them attractive or unattractive, checking the distance from you will tell you if you are honestly willing to travel that distance-----their hobbies and interests will be similiar to yours or you will ignore-----their religion, if important to you, may be a limiting factor----now in all honesty, isn't this the way we are all doing it------if a person will not chat with you on yahoo messenger or exchange emails then maybe a cup of coffee or posting on threads will not help either----i never try to limit the number of bodyguards or big brothers that a woman brings to the first cup of coffee in a public place she chooses----lol

No secrets in small farmtowns? Very, Very true! I learned at an early age, don't do things you will be ashamed of, because it will be common talk in the poolroom tomorrow! Heck, people can tell you things, you only thought about doing, here!
I believe posting ones thoughts in the chats is a way of interesting someone who might be a match. I do not chat on yahoo or messinger, if it needs to go private, that's what phones are for! I, personally, have a broadband phone connection, with unlimited long distance, so that is no consideration. Yes, Vera & I went to phone conversations, but we continued the emails, too. Me especially, because I am commonly up until 4-5am, so would email her then. Give her mail to read when she got up, and then same for me, when I would get up the next afternoon.

Not certain about Yahoo, but a bit of computer knowledge can block that on my broadband connection. Actually, I can make my IP addy show up wrong, if I want, too.
