We were having a conversation at the supper table tonight about Christmas and Santa coming. My youngest son who is 7 reminded me that we need to bake cookies for Santa. I said, "Oh, that's right! We'll make oatmeal cookies!" (My all time favorite) He quickly said, "NO! Not Oatmeal cookies! Santa's favorite cookies are Chocolate Chip!" I gave him this confused look and said, "I thought it was Oatmeal." (Trying to convince him that we should bake my favorite.) He insisted that it's Chocolate Chip. I thought for a minute and said, "You might be right, but just in case I'm right, let's make both kinds." (Thinking this way I could make my son happy, and still get my favorite cookies after having been dieting for so long an oatmeal cookies sounded just WONDERFUL!)
He then says to me in a matter of fact tone and shrugged his shoulders as he said, "Okay, but he's not gonna eat the oatmeal ones!" He just TOTALLY blew my plan out the window!

He's my only one who still believes in Santa. And the only one who has believed in him for so long. I guess because he's the baby of our large family, we all coddle him and make sure that he stays young and innocent! So.... what I think I'm going to do is bake both kinds of cookies, and then leave the oatmeal ones so that my baby boy can prove to me that he was right about Santa. Because if I eat the oatmeal cookies, he'll know that I age them... and he's already beginning to doubt the whole Santa thing at times anyway. It's gonna be a REAL sacrifice to leave those oatmeal ones sitting on the plate though!! LOL
