A set number of people to live in heaven, and the rest to inherit the earth. My question is have anyone uncovered this? seen this in the bible? heard about it from a friend maybe? The 12,000 is a descriptive expression pertaining to a perfected remnant of Israelites that were called to the gospel...while the rest of Israel was blinded by God from hearing the gospel of Christ. Christ talked about this prophecy from Isaiah concerning the house of Israel being blinded..and Paul also spoke on the remnant of Israel being a prophecy of Isaiah that is being fulfilled. Romans 9:27 Isaiah cries out concerning Israel: "Though the number of the Israelites be like the sand by the sea, only the remnant will be saved. The usage of 12 is symbolic of a remnat group, just as the 12 disciples were a remnant of called out ones...why 12 I am not sure, but the usage of the number 1000 defines perfection and completeness. The sealing of the remant of Israel pertains to the purposes of prophecy being fulfilled. There is no actual accuracy in the exact number, and to take it literal, then the entire prophecy concerning this remnant saved and sealed, must also be taken literally. it would be an incorrect exegesis of scripture to pick and chose what we supposed to be literal or not concerning this prophetic remaant. I don't believe so because these are not the tribes of Israel in Rev 7...The two literal tribes of Dan and Ephraim are omitted in the passage...not only that but why is the tribe of Levi included in the revelation? In the Old testament the tribe of Levi was never counted in the twelve tribes of israel because of their special status as priests of the Mosaic law..yet in Revelation they are counted among the twelve tribes...In fact the 'literal' Levitical priesthood, ceased when Christ came because Christ actually represented the priesthood Himself (Heb 7-10) just some observations [Edited 9/16/2009 8:35:35 AM PST]

The thought of the 144,000 saved from the tribes of Israel I do not take literally...To me this is a symbol that represents the remnant of Israel that would be chosen for salvation in those last days of the age of the law. Many are called but few are chosen is a comment specific for only the Jews...The many Jews were called by God as a nation, but only few were chosen.. Matthew 20:16 So the last shall be first, and the first last: for many be called, but few chosen. The last to be called were the Gentiles, and the first called were the Jews...However the gentiles entered into the kingdom through the gospel first and those who were first called(the Jews) were the last to enter into the kingdom...the parable of the vineyard that is spoken to lead up to this comment Jesus made, is in regards to the gentiles being the first to enter... Romans 11 3"Lord, they have killed your prophets and torn down your altars; I am the only one left, and they are trying to kill me"? 4And what was God's answer to him? The OT and NT prophecies are for the most part directed at Israel, and the destruction of the temple as signifying the end of the age of the law spoken by Jesus in Matthew 24 unfolds more clearly by the Revelation of Christ given to John. What does it mean to have a vision 'signified'? The word 'signififed' comes from the original word 'semaino'...and this means to give a sign. These signs should be understood as being signs that are revealing a spiritual vision, and should not be taken literally...If they are to be taken literally then they can't be 'signs' that signify a deeper spiritual revelation. A person can not be a virgin but celibate because it is a conscious decision. You choose not to have sex from that moment forth but you may have had sexual intercourse in the past. A virgin (in this context at least) has NEVER had sex. This passage is saying celibate virgins. They are making sure you understand what they mean. Evidently it still isnt clear enough.
