Hi kym  If the harm or hurt was public I think a public apology doesn't make the one saying I am sorry I was wrong feel much better about screwing up ,but it does set the record straight . I think its espcially important if any aspersion or doubts were cast on the good name or good character of person you had the misunderstanding with or about .
Then not doing the same thing again as if you weren't wrong the first time is what I think shows you really meant your apology .
I know some people use the words " I'm Sorry , I was wrong" to placate the person they hurt and avoid the natural consequences of their actions . I think that gets old real quick and is not hard to see that person's insincerity when comparing their words and actions .
Ok off my soapbox now  
Were we discussing someone else's fear of heights here ??? If so don't feel bad I will jump out of a perfectly good airplane for fun but step stools ,ladders , glass elevators ,bridges etc and my knees start knocking like castanets .

I think a lot of us fear not measuring up to what they believe others expect of them.. As an example the love partnership just took a dive, the s/o says, " this ain't workin for me, I'm callin it quits. ". the recipient is crushed, tears are welling up like mad, the mind is a race track of doomish hopes wondering, 'what did I do wrong?, what should I have done better? how can I please so & so to make them reconsider? what is so terrible about me?, what can I say to change their mind?,' and on and on and on...
None of it is true, ain't nothing different about us, we are still the same person we were before, but now we think they found something about ourselves that doesn't measure up. And now, we have to go through the grieving process because of the loss, while we still torment ourselves about our "shortcomings".

Hmmmm... I have a totally irrational fear of heights! Terrifies me! Even to the point that I can't watch someone else up on a ladder!  I fear my ex deciding that he's going to try to exercise his "parental rights". Hasn't seen them in over 2 years. Best thing that's ever happened to us. Those who know my story, know why this is true. God willing, he'll stay away.

Did you fall from a height as a child? Thats why Im afraid of heights, fell from a waterfall at Rickets Glenn when I was young. I dangled on a tree root and had to pull myself back up.
