Charlotte, for it's size, is not a good eating town . . . but, if you're in this neck of the woods--
Woodlands, Southern Indian (and vegetarian if you are a meataterian), Albemarle Rd.
Ben Thanh, Vietnamese, Central Av.
Lang Van, Vietnamese, Shamrock Dr. (owned by either the sister or the brother of the man or woman who owns Ben Thanh)
Price's Chicken Coop, amazing fried chicken, no seating, so eat it in your car, but well worth it, Camden Rd.

The Weathervane in Chapel Hill is good and is attached to A Southern Season, which is foodie paradise

If in Wilson, get Parker's Barbecue

If in Goldsboro, get Wilbur's Barbecue

I know I've got a few more thoughts, but my thinker is tired. When it snoozes for a bit, I'll see if I can come up with anything else.

If you are up in Blowing Rock go to the Chetola Resort. Beautiful grounds, great food and outstanding service. Nice place to stay also.

The Best Cellar in Blowing Rock has been a favorite of mine for many years. It's a bit pricy though.

I don't mind pricey....

Thank's for the tips, guys!
Ruth ~ I'm going to CH this weekend, so I'll check out the Weathervane.

A few more:
In Asheville-The Laughing Seed, which (fair warning) is vegetarian, but OMG, I had this Pistachio Pesto there a year or so ago that made me want to cry it's so good
Salsa's--interesting Caribbean/Mexican fusion . . . so tacos with mango salsa and what not

Wilmington
Elijah's--Seafood and on the River Walk, the food is good but the view makes it

Charlotte again--
Can't believe I forgot Amelies--they have some sandwiches and soup, which are fine (what I've had of them), but it's the desert . . . salted caramel brownie is a must have

Baoding for Chinese--near Southpark mall

The Counter for Burgers-several basic burgers and then you add your own toppings--everything from the norm through bbq sauce to peanut sauce--near Southpark

The Penguin-good burger, very cold beer, great atmosphere--on Thomas Av. in Plaza Midwood

Luisa's Pizza on Montford--thin crust, lovely toppings . . . one of those pizzas that everything comes together in perfect proportion

Nothing I've listed is fine dining, because I tend to not have the budget for fine dining often, but I understand that Sonoma uptown is fabulous.

Happy eating! I'm hungry now.

You can look at my belly and tell I ought to know this one !!!!!!!!!!!!! There are lots of really good ones,my favorite has to The Depot at Cody Creek south of Dobson (real close to Mt.Airy/Mayberry too) about 1 mile or so. Freddy Snow, the owner, is a hands on guy and constantly monitors the food, customers and restaurant/bar. The site is available on the net with photos of the Chapel,Restaurant and Cabins. Defineitly a class act He and his wife Kathy are always there and if you visit, ask for the bar next to the indoor water (mill) wheel. LOVE IT, Tom

O'Charlies is one of the few restaurants that I have been to here in Wilmington. They have a nice little bar dim lighting. Kind of the perfect setting to bring a date and have a few drinks. Come to think of it I need to find more places. Its not the best but their rolls are awesome!

If you like good country food at a great price, check out the K&W Cafeteria chain all around Winston-Salem, Statesville, and now even in Virginia. Good chicken pie, roast beef, country style steak, good seasoned veggies, good choice of salads and great desserts. Love the coconut cake and all the pies.

well, if you love Italian food like I do, You should try Mamma Rita's in Whiteville, NC. They have a small menu, but they do everything very well, and great portions for your money. It's real Italian food too, not this made up crap everywhere else.

I have to agree with 12 Bones in Asheville. I lived up there for a little over a year. They built the new 12 Bones right down the street from me on Mills Gap. I would eat there 2 -3 times a week.

I never got anything that wasn't delicious!!

Nothing like a cold beer and some good BBQ after a long day at work.

If you are going for a fast unhealthy food. Bill's Hotdogs in Little Washington. Been there since the late 1800's, Been offered franchize opps but turned them down. People in Canada have them ship their dogs on dry ice. Take a cheap red dyed hot dog fry it in lard. Get the chilly made from onions flour dab of bacon grease, and I wish I could get the spices right. The world's best hot dog lol
