I know. I know. Don't discuss politics or religion. Keeping in mind, opinions and debate are healthy how do you feel about the current state of the nation

I myself depend on government for three basic things.

1) Security

2) Infrastructure

3) Prosperity

I do not feel safe. I question my future prosperity and our infra structure is crumbling. But hey....I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night

MP returns from sabbatical like a voice from the grave. Sup comrade? Feeling like the stimulus passed you by? Hoping things will change soon? Have you been brushing up on your Socialism, Fascism and Marxism? Hope you like your new job hoeing potatoes at the cooperative and do try to learn to love boiled cabbage. Vodka is Russia's national beverage of choice, maybe we could adopt Tequila as ours. Drink up comrade, Obama's got your back. Or the knife sticking out of it.

It's depressing - but ignoring it won't make it go away. Sort of like Tazz.

Enjoy your boiled cabbage with your side of boiled cabbage. Salt is not available and don't even think about putting some butter on it. Dessert tonight will be boiled cabbage.

What I would like to know is why they have not found a way to cap that oil spill and why the senate went on vacation without deciding on what to do about the unemployment fiasco? AND.........why immmigration is more important then fact that the recession is the biggest IMMEDIATE threat to this nation and it's swept under the rug as an afterthought. And what the hell is up with this damn headache????

After Andrew gets finished doing his work of spreading the oil far and wide we can only hope that they figure out how to cap the spill. I suspect the oil industry will rise to the occasion and make something work soon. Tax cuts will stimulate the economy. Companies will begin hiring again. The stalled economy will start to roll. Higher taxes is never the answer. The dems are likely to try and push through an amnesty plan for immigration. How is that fair to me? I didn't pay my car insurance and they impounded my truck, made me pay fines and I'm on super secret insurance probation for six months. But if I was just an illegal immigrant I could have free schooling, free health care and have any info I needed fed to me in my own language while I send most of my income back to the barrio. Could all that explain your headache Pam?

My headache most likey is from the huge screaming match my ex hubby and I had last night from like 10 till 11. Yes, immigration is a issue...a big one. But unlike most I don't and can't blame the latino's for what they get for free. That my friends is the governments fault. It is hard to listen to the bashing of ALL hispanics as a whole as my kids are half hispanic and have nothing to do with this issue. It is being painted with the huge ignorant racist brush that pisses me the f**k off.

You want change and equal rights, taxes, etc...for illegals? Get off your whiny a** and make something happen...otherwise just STFU already.

As far as the capping that spill....it is leaking what? A million gallons a day into our oceans and destroying everything in it's path and yet it's almost like they are just kinda twiddling their thumbs, sucking back some beers and grabbing their nuts and being like...."well earl...maybe we could use some ducttape and a rubber band? Nah...let's just blow it up...."

Damn morons!!!!! And why did they not have some kind of shut off point when building the damn thing in case something like this happened? UGH!!!!!

I am just adding an element related to religion to spice things up.

This is a excerpt from a talk given at BYU in 1966 entitled "Our Immediate Responsibility".

Benson believed that a communist/socialist conspiracy was working within our country to subtly drive us, like cattle, into communism.

After the fall of the Soviet Union, Communism spread through the world under new and deceptive names; "Democracy" and "Capitalism". Not to be confused with the free market capitalism that Americans used to believe in. The secret combination, within our own country, has been plotting the overthrow of the world's free people for nearly a hundred years, but their plan is at its climax. These are the powers that Benson was talking about, not just about the U.S.S.R.

My goodness, I've stirred a hornets nest. My point is that I have to obey the law and I feel it only fair that all the rest of the folks that reside in my country do the same. No double standard. They call it illegal immigration because it's ILLEGAL! I have no problem with a hard working anybody, any race, sex, religion or whatever coming here to the land of opportunity and making life better for them and their family. Just do it legally. Is that too much to ask? Does that make me racist? Hell no! That makes me an American and a realist. If the borders are wide open and anybody from anywhere can just walk in and set up shop it won't be long till being an American means nothing at all. Our ancestors worked too long and hard losing their lives fighting for freedom and the rights that we enjoy to let it all go. How ungrateful would we be if we let that happen?

I do not claim to be part of any party....although I have been told my views lean more Democratic. I am just me and know what feels right and wrong to me with no fuzzy 'maybe's', Like I said earlier one voice will never be enough to effect change.

Oh please......first....I never called you a racist....but if the hood fits who am I to take that title you want to put yourself in?

Secondly, I never said it WASN'T an issue...re-read....

Third, I agree we need all people who come here to be legal.....but once again...the goverment is to blame for this one not the illegals.

Fourth, are you REALLY going to play the 'our ancestors' card? Sweet baby jesus......

How is the immigration issue harming anyones right to free speech or my freedom? PLEASE explain that one......

I'm sorry, I thought you called me a racist because you were responding to my post. How could I have been so wrong? Please don't take our freedom for granted. Complacency will be the end of it for sure. One voice added to the massive chorus of angry voices will eventually create a groundswell of change. Yup, both parties are whacked and we are being slowing boiled alive by the progressives. It's been afoot for a long time. It's fueled by our ignorance and complacency. But....I think things are going to change. Immigration is but a small issue when compared to the devastation of our economy, loss of autonomy and growing dependence on the govt. for nearly everything. Now can we be friends again?

The oil leak is just being used like war or police action. As long as I can think of in history every time the US has started to struggle they have something major happen that places people back to work producing or cleaning up something.

So right now they are giving you tax cuts, placing our friends in a war zone and giving you the opportunity to work letting you clean up the oil spill. I feel that they love the oil spill because they are getting BP to flip the bill to place people back to work.

So to help things more let’s take away you right of free speech, you right to bear arms via a world agreement and regulate the content on the internet. The only part of this I would like is to regulate is only kiddy porn on the internet and other very bad content like it.

While I was not thrilled about the last election, I do not feel that we got the lesser of the two evils. I am under employed right now and refuse to make a change until we have change in 2012. I just don’t trust what is going on, the bills are paid and I am doing well.

I don't think I would make much of a socialist, so everyone get off their a** and find a job. Don't expect a handout from the government because the money really commes from an entity or individual that earned it.

What happpened to selflessly serving one's country when elcted to a leadership position instead of furthering one's status, power and career.

My mom's favorite saying about the current president is "boil him in oil."

Why have "pork barrel politics" been part of the system for centuries?

I'm also for the US carrying a "big stick and speaking softly", then using the bigstick to whack the hell out of individuals and countries when talking doesn't work.

I'm for eneregy dependence including off shore drilling and elsewhere.
Good to see a reckless oil company paying more of the bill. Hope they have to ante up more. It's shameful that so little has been done to curtail the oil flow.

Exploring alternative energy is great, but let's continue to develop cleaner ways to use sources we have , not forgetting nuclear power.

The government shares much of the blame for the immigration issue as it stands, mostly by looking the other way for decades. We need a secure border in these dangerous times. Also our national language is English and the flag is the red white and blue.

For anyone, citizen, non citizen or current president that wants to make excuses for this countries behaviour and denigrate it to others, get the hell out if it bothers or embarrasses you so much.

Before you get on others to get a job, consider my story. I was laid off from my dream job in 2009 due to the recession. Now one year and over 200 resumes and job applications later, I finally have found a new job in another state in a less than ideal setting. Its survivable, but will take some major adjusting. Private enterprise, who caused this whole mess in the first place, refused to fix it, so who do I turn too? I do admit that the government doesn't know how to fix it either, even when the answer is staring everyone in the face. When fat cats line their pockets with consumer's money instead of investing it in employees (more of em, with higher pay), their customers (lower prices), or investors (higher dividends) we all suffer, that's what causes a recession. When the fat cats are willing spend more money on employees, and lower prices the economy will recover, until then be thankful if you've got a job and ask Uncle Sam redistribute some wealth if you don't.

Before anyone goes blaming big companies, perhaps you also need to look at their profit margins. Remember, the profit is what's left over after all the bills (including employee wages) are paid.

Right now, most companies are running on close to zero margins, if not losing money. If you think big companies are fat cats and really can afford to hire more workers &/or pay higher wages right now, think again.

The biggest problem I see is that our whole economy is consumption based. People decrease spending in tough times, and that in turn means less jobs because if we're not buying, there's nothing for someone else's paycheck.

This is so true I had a web site selling airsoft guns so I targeted disposable income. I was grossing 20K a month with a 1/3 margin and when things turned it plunged to $100 per month with no margin and I had to just shut it down. My importer that I used is all but closed also. The money that I contributed to this area is gone for now.

I have trouble believing the companies are struggling when the CEO, Chairman of the Board, Other board members, and the "pointy-haired managers" all get paid 1000x what I get paid, then lay me and 88 of my friends off, when they make enough to pay for 999 employees paid the same amount I made. The aforementioned fat cats can't reduce their salaries to save 88 jobs, when each of them has enough money save 999 jobs?!

They need to accept that being paid 10s of millions when the rest of us live paycheck-to-paycheck on 10s of thousands is NOT a sustainable arrangement. When everyone in the company is being paid on par with each other (commonly found in so-called small businesses) then we can talk about lay-offs.

Griz.... Thanks for your service to this country. I like the way you roll. Tell it like it is.

No hard feelings TJ Brewer, it just that it is hard to here some one complain because his life is not a cushy as some one else's. When you feel sad and betrayed by this country and all the big bad executives and big evil corporations, consider you could be one of the more then ONE BILLION people on earth who earn the equivalent to ONE DOLLAR a day.

I once read that if you own 2 pair of shoes you are in the top 5% of the wealthiest people on the planet.

We are lucky to live here, but we are going to lose everything due to our lazy, glutenous behavior. China and India will be giving tours of the Statue Of Liberty and Grand Canyon in 20 years

I'm having a little argument on Facebook with the friends of my favorite niece. They are all Obama fans that don't realize he is a socialist, which, when promoted by a leftie is just another name for communism. What is REALLY SAD is they simply got caught up in his "popularity" during the election and don't have a clue what he is even DOING.

Quote from tj_brewer:
When the fat cats are willing spend more money on employees, and lower prices the economy will recover, until then be thankful if you've got a job and ask Uncle Sam redistribute some wealth if you don't.

I'll be frank: I make a comfortable living providing for myself and my sons. From my income, some people would judge me to be one of the fat cats.

BUT

I went to college. I worked my arse off with 4 years total college to get admitted into a difficult program, and then spent another 5 years in that program. I have student loans I needed to survive while going thru school that now need to be repaid. I chose to make sacrifices, and now they're paying off.

People who get on the top ladders pay their dues in blood, sweat and tears. It may be with time & hard labor, it may be with school, probably all have some family sacrifice and many have extensive family sacrifices; but it all adds up to experience. We are hard to replace. It's why we're paid more, and it's why we're the last to go.

I'd like to know your training for your job. Tell me you've done the same?

Thanks Melt, how is life in Cokeville? I worked in Big Piney for a year out on the Jonah. (Talk about a misnomer, not a tree in sight)

SafetyGRRRRRRL I think you may have a bit of instigator in your blood I think we should grab a cup of coffeee with me sometime.

I have two friends who voted for Oprah, I mean Obama...Fruedian slip. They were all worried about health care. Neither of them have had anything but Social hand outs from the time I have known them...I tried to take the husband to work with me for $21/hr in Wyoming...couldn't leave his wife for work...I tried to get him to come with me to Minnesota to earn $32/hr building ethanol plants just before the market crashed... couldn't leave the wife for 6 months work. Now they are in Tennessee and his $218/week unemployment ran out...he wants some help

I told him that he could move to Louisiana and help with the clean up efforts or pray and wait for Oprah, I mean Obama will be coming to the rescue soon just hang in there.

I am a Pipefitter by trade and haven't had a problem finding work until the economy took a dump. I could blame so many people, but that isn't going to pay my bills! If someone doesn't bring at least 3 resolutions to the table when they want to complain, then they really are not wanting to solve the problem.

Don't impugn me honor boy.

The only reason I didn't serve in the military was because I'm 4-F . My Grandfather served in WWII, three of my uncles served in the Cold War.

Socialism is not the way to go, but bridled capitalism is. A great depression occurred in the late 1800s, and as a result, Theodore Roosevelt bridled Capitalism in the 1900s. Out of that we got the FDA, Public education, public sanitation, and a general ban on monopolies not instituted by a state government. In 1929 the horse of Capitalism took the bit between its teeth, and FDR re-bridled it with the New Deal which severely regulated utilities, imposed progressive taxes, and imposed regulations with benefits that today are taken for granted. In 2008, the horse again took the bit between its teeth and needs to be corralled and re-bridled.

Not all CEOs are Fat Cats. Some live according to Marx's dictates without government coercion. Mr. Alfred (not his real name) makes 30 million, but shells out 29 million in operating costs, donates .97 million to charity, and lives on only 300,000, just 10x what I make. On top of that, he doesn't panic in a bear market, he just absorbs it and keeps going. We need more CEOs like Mr. Alfred.

Mr. Benji, on the other hand, makes the same amount only shells out 10 million and lays off employees whenever his cut of 20 million is threatened. He needs to be run out of town.

Calling me a socialist, spoken like a greedy sniveling FAT CAT:

If I meant to 'impugn' you, you would know it. And, son, I have flushed more salt water in service to this country than you have seen. So, if you don't like the socialist color you have painted yourself with, rethink a solution to your problem.

Quote from tj_brewer:

4-f classification means that the registrant is not acceptable for military service. The registrant was found not qualified for service in the Armed Forces under the established physical, mental, or moral standards.

Quote from tj_brewer:
My Grandfather served in WWII, three of my uncles served in the Cold War.

My appreciation for your relative's service to this country.
They must be proud of you.
There were several military and police actions during the Cold War era...however the 'Cold War' was not a war itself.

Teddy created the FDA and the passing of this act did little to improve the economy in 1906, quite the opposite actually. The FDA is part of the US Dept of Health and Human Services...Social reform.

FDR, in 1933, regulated the banks and the stock market... interesting that you would cite progressive taxes an benefits from a democratic president and his...social reform.

In 2008, the stock market was deregulated...those who forget history are destined to repeat it...

And here you are, like the banks, insurance agencies and auto makers screaming 'where's my bail-out? let me have some of that guy's money. He has more than enough.'...social reform ala ROBin the HOOD

This next quote is a riot!

Quote from tj_brewer:

are you friggin' serious? Karl Marx??? Communism = extreme/militant socialism
and you are NOT a socialist or you find it insulting to be discovered?

Very noble and his prerogative. But your math sucks!
$30,000,000 - $29,000,000 = $1,000,000
$1,000,000 x .97 = $970,000
$1,000,000 - $970,000 = $30,000
Take a 30 mill a year man and make him a 30 thou a year man...nice math
Which, ironically, is probably still 10x more than you are worth.
Funny that you left out his 'fair' share of taxes. Or, were you already dividing them up amongst yourself and your non-profit beneficiaries of his philanthropic endeavors?

It's not about left or right. It's not about middle income semi-successful people that consider themselves to be fat cats and in the know. I'm not LDS, but that speech by Benson was a very true speech and I respect him for it. I'll bite my tongue on the rest of that.
“There exist in this country a plot to enslave every man, woman, and child. Before i leave this high and noble office i intend to expose this plot!" -John F Kennedy. Something he didn't live long enough to do obviously. Wonder if his death was a message to future presidents?

This all stems from the federal reserve act of 1913, the economic collapse we are facing is being done on purpose by very bad people. We are experiencing the largest transfer of wealth in history as the "True Elite" get richer, and the middle class disappears. The Oil Spill is a false flag designed to convince Americans that the carbon tax Obama is pushing despite congress's refusal to pass, through the EPA is in our best interest. Because there's "too many of us" That humans are bad, gas use is bad, we need to cut back on our carbon footprint and pay a carbon tax to Al Gore.

When in reality we could give every person on earth 1/4 acre of land in Australia, still have about 10% of the land left, and then all the land in the rest of the world untouched. Earth is not overpopulated, it's badly managed, and the bad management is intentional.

Bush laid all the groundwork for what Obama does today. They are both batting for team Goldman Sachs. Nothing more than puppets for the rathskellers and Rothschild. And if people don't see the parallels in history we are in for some serious trouble

"We are grateful to the Washington Post, the New York Times, Time magazine and other great publications whose directors have attended our meetings and respected the promises of discretion for almost forty years. It would have been impossible for us to develop our plan for the world if we had been subject to the bright lights of publicity. But, the world is now more sophisticated and prepared to march towards a world-government. The supranational sovereignty if an intellectual elite and world bankers is surely preferable to the national auto-determination practiced in past centuries" - David Rockefeller

Quote from TJ Brewer: When the fat cats are willing spend more money on employees, and lower prices the economy will recover.

Good God man where did you take your economic theory classes?

I increase spending on employees (more, higher paid).
I decrease profits by lowering prices.
So I'm paying out double and bringing in half as much money.
What am I, a nonprofit organization?

There is a limit to the amount of employees any company can employ. This is not set by the whim of some fat cat. This is simple man hour tasks available. Why is anyone to be expected to hire employees that aren't going to be involved in producing a product? For the greater good of the Empire? Too rally around the flag and boost the economy?

Face it. 99% of all companies do not produce a product for the benefit of mankind, Obama, or any noble reason. They produce and market products to make money. When they stop making more money than they spend, they go out of business. (unless of course they get bailed out with your tax dollars).

Socialism and Communism simply do not work in practical applications. The great average of humans on earth will not labor efficiently without some kind of end reward being involved. (be it money or self preservation) So if you take away that reward and redistribute it among the non-working, non-efficient you take away the horse that is pulling the wagon so to speak. Everyone wants to be the one receiving and not the one thats working for nothing.

The trick is to economic recovery is too get everyone pulling the wagon and have no one riding in it. Not the opposite. Nothing in life is free my friend.

And the only way that is going to happen is to make America once again competitive in the manufacturing arena. You will have to compete against foreign competitors with no government restrictions, no EPA, No OSHA, no unemployment taxes, no insurance costs, etc... You won't be able to boost salaries to unrealistic levels.

America is at a crossroad my friend. One where they must realize that we can no longer demand three times the pay to produce a product with 1/3rd the quality. That we can not afford to support the people that only want to ride in the wagon.

The economy isn't a political issue. Politicians didn't do this to us. We did this to ourself. Now we have to undo it.

PS - yeah guys I'm still alive. Be good - C.T.

Here Here CT Well said

We as Americans have become lazy, fat mega consumers. It's embarrassing compared to the rest of the world.

The dynamic politics/government, has added to the slide of the economy is the creation and nurturing of the "help me" society. A large group of healthy, able bodied people all snuggy and hooked up to the government's social program umbilical cord.

One big component to the socialists ideas is the undermining of higher education. What is the incentive for a guy/gal to go to 6, 8, 10 , 12 years of school, when his/her motivation is the same as the guy who turns a wrench. Where will that leave us in regards to research and development.

Oh wait, we can depend on India and China to learn all the cool stuff and share it with us at no profit. Phew.....
