From all the answers I think it's obvious there is no "most brutal blow".
Of course if you mean "legal in the ring" moves and strikes as opposed to ANY situation it changes the answer some. I am a self defense instructor, so that's where my mind goes when I think of such questions, as opposed to ring fighting.
An arm bar can snap an arm, but a carotoid choke could make someone pass out, and could even be held until there was brain damage or death, but they don't let you hold it after the person has passed out in the ring.
A knife hand or ridge hand strike to the throat can kill if it hits just right. A punch to the face can cause knock out if it hits right, a kick to the head can do the same. A punch or kick to the solar plexus can sure put a man completely down.
A throw can be devastating too if you can land your opponent on his head!
SO MANY ways to hurt the bad guy!
GOOD TRAINING!

I don't think so. Stomach muscles do not cover up the solar plexes. If you use speed blows, the shock penetrates even muscles. Also tai chi practioners are not invincible. I taught tai chi & have practiced karate since 1960ty.

I have been in Martial Arts for near 14 years now. Just about anything is fatal or can be. It all depends on how its used. Most True Martial Arts users use it as defense only. A properly taught Martial Artist can harm a person if they know how to control their body and control their moves.

Why all the talk of fancy stuff when you are talking brutal? if you want to stop someone strike the vitals, not everyone has tons of power or can do all the pretty T.V. crap that wont really work anyway, especially against a real fighter. Use their strength against them whenever possible and get CLOSE go for the vitals and get it over with. Of course in sporting situations this is a different story (somewhat) targets must change or at least some of them but the principals remain the same. Knees and elbows are great, fancy high flying stuff.. you better leave in the do jo or in a tournament that does not allow the methods available to deal with such moves.

Good point Carbonv. Although, in the ring, I do see some fancier stuff work from time to time, like a GSP spinning back kick, but i also see that stuff MISS a lot in the ring. And in the street, with beer on the floor, loose gravel in the parking lot, dew or rain on the grass, i'm not spinning, or kicking high at all.
To the vitals - definately. Throat, eyes, groin, solar plexus, knee break, etc.
To the guy who said most brutal meant the strike with most power, not necessarily. WHERE you apply that power is just as important. A big powerful superman punch to a weight lifter's peck isn't gonna do near the damage as a petite little thing can do if she puts her pointed toe high heeled boots right into the bad guys groin.
I saw a very small woman put a BIG man down with a hand strike to the groin, in person. He fell like a dropped sack of flour.

You are right that different things work in a streetfight, than work in MMA. But luckily this is the MMA forum, not the general Martial Arts forum, or street fighting forum. And when specifically talking about the sport of MMA all of the "eye, throat, groin, etc" isn't exactly legal. So as far as single most brutal move allowed in MMA, none of those are applicable.

first to Tansudragon, yes I do agree with you, and I did mention those fancy or high flying tactics should be used in the do jo or in a tournament, so I don't think we have ant disagreement. As for what Sagiv mentioned, I don't think anyone is trying to put down in any way the sport versions of Martial Arts. I only am saying not all the arts are sport only related, and this (i believe) being the ONLY martial arts forum, All our arts and methods sporting or not should have a place here. Therefore I believe these things would be applicable, just not as you say in the sporting ring. After all the thread title did not say sport specifically. I do understand the OP was probably thinking in those terms, but why not expand on the thought? My hope is that we can all be respectful of each other and gain some knowledge and insight from each other in all areas of our arts.

I agree that no one was putting down the sport of MMA which is near and dear to my heart. And this is the only Martial Arts related forum. But the only reason the MMA forum exists is because the sport has grown so much lately especially with the younger demographic. So from a marketing standpoint it makes good sense to have it and I'm grateful for it, as Iv'e had a passion for it since I was first introduced to it (UFC 3, in 1994 I believe). And I also agree and confirm that the thread starter was asking for input on the most brutal blow within the realm of MMA. I am guiding the conversation back towords the intended topic. And I'm sure that we can all get along respectfully.

My opinion of the most brutal strike is a spinning back kick, because you are thrusting your entire body weight with centrifical force to slam your heel into your opponets body. The most brutal move that can be done in my opinion is taking your opponets back, putting a body triangle around the belly, and performing a rear naked choke. Just for the record, I have two black belts and teach submission fighting. Thanks for reading!

A rear naked choke is fairly quick. But,if a man is ducking a blow, and his opponent lands a front kick to his face, with a lot of power,I always consider them pretty brutal. But again,I wouldn't want to be in a Royce Gracie choke.

The forehead or elbow, a Triangle lock....
This imo is the most brutal...and I would know, been dabbling in it for nearly 20 years.
The triangle is indeed devastating...especially after opponent has been pounded on for a few minutes....

good day to all,i haven't joined this group because like you guys said it mainly deals with mma and ufc style fighting. i have been training in MUAY THAI since the age of 8 (1969 to present ) and since the thread did not specify street or ring style fighting i hope that you don't mind if i give my opinion. there are countless lethal moves that can cause almost instant death, but none are legal in the ring or octagon. a very simple move that takes years to perfect is a simple straight kick with the ball of the foot landing right under the bridge of the nose on a 80 degree upward angle, your opponent will be dead before your foot returns to the ground. like i said there are many , many moves that fall into this category but in a street fight it has been my experience that most are over in 15 seconds or less. thanks for letting me post in your forum. oh in my opinion the best fighter in my day was " bill superfoot Wallace or bad brad hefton, for all us old guys that can still remember back that far.

If you watched fight science when Randy Courtoure was on top in the mounted position it amplified his kinetic energy allowing him to hit an opponent at nearly twice the average punch ( which was around 600 lbs per square inch) He hit at nearly 1200 lbs per square inch. That would be a devastating blow to anybody.
On the other hand Tito body slammed someone to the mat at nearly 2500 pounds per square inch of pressure.
The most devastating combo?? Is easy .... slam them to the mat and get mounted and punch til your knuckles bleed!!

I think an elbow is pretty damaging, Have you seen Rashad Evans? Brutal!!
I suppose we must first define 'brutal': S: (adj) barbarous, brutal, cruel, fell, roughshod, savage, vicious ((of persons or their actions) able or disposed to inflict pain or suffering) "a barbarous crime"; "brutal beatings"; "cruel tortures"; "Stalin's roughshod treatment of the kulaks"; "a savage slap"; "vicious kicks"
http://wordnetweb.princeton.edu/perl/webwn?s=brutal
I would say the #1 most brutal move or blow is the groin kick. Kicks deliver the most power, and the groin... should be obvious.
But, this is an MMA section, so it's worth discussing the most "legal" move (I'm going to use UFC rules). For this, I'm going to turn to science. In the realm of striking (this is what I think of when I think "brutality"), we can measure which strikes do the most damage. From there, it's the combination of target + application of the strike that makes the most brutal combination.
What's the most brutal strike? Well, sorry to say - even though it's popular here - elbows are hardly on the radar. Which makes sense. They utilize a very hard part of the body, but it's not got the same leverage of punches, kicks, or knee strikes... and a MUCH smaller muscle group (energy source) than utilized in knees / kicks. For comparison between strikes, check this out: http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2006/08/060814-fight-science_2.html
For the most brutal strike I've seen recorded: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QGjPnLjvvrs
I believe this kick delivered to the liver or the head (in that order) is the most brutal. I say liver first, because guys will 'verbally tap' from it. What other strikes to guys verbally tap from? A clench knee strike to the head is a close second:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qjHxQl-KwEs
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=199Ts4MZEiM
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZY830Q3Zvjk
There was a good compilation of Bas Rutten's liver strikes somewhere... but I can't find it... so, here's the next best thing (first one starts with liver KO):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uiGQIh-6Kdo
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7L_AuvaWIh4
Sometimes the most brutal, is the one you don't see coming:

*Obviously lifting an opponent who has you in a triangle to shoulder height, then arcing them downward headfirst while you drop to your knees to coincide with the impact has to deliver the most brutality of legal moves--if not for mat cushion and floor spring,
certainly lethal if done properly(imagine concrete!)But the poor fool that shoots for
the leg head down and is met with a lifting knee* thrown from the back leg(braced, not
