I have another computer related issue.
My new computer, it seems when I do just about anything my CD/DVD player spins like crazy.
When I start my computer, when I open my graphics viewer, lots of things that doesn't require the computer to read the CD that is in the CD player but it still does and seems to spin harder and faster than it normally read it.
Of course I'm inclined to believe this is so it will burn out faster and I'll have to buy a new CD/DVD player burner.
MY Compaq didn't do that on my old computer but I replaced it with a HP burner, and it also did that as well. Now it is doing it on my new computer.
The only way I've found to keep it from doing that is just not to have anything in their or it will read it, regardless if it needs to or not.
Is there some setting or option anywhere that keeps your computer from reading ahead on a CD that you are not currently using?

There is a setting to disable read ahead but it handicaps the abilities of the newer faster drives to do so.
On boot the seek can be disabled in cmos, just tell it not to attempt to boot to cd. Just remember you done so if you ever have to recover the system.
Believe it or not, most parts and components are built better and to last longer than in the past. Simply remove the disc from the drive.

instead of disabling to boot from CD in CMOS i'd move it way down the list to the last resort...that way if you ever need to do a recover with that option you can..... you might be surprised how many times that is used or at least allowed someone to recover data before they rebuilt a hosed system.....
