Press Release
Police Link Rapes to Online Singles Sites and Online Communities
Prince George’s County, Maryland…The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Sexual Assault Unit is investigating at least six rapes that have occurred in the last few months in the Temple Hills and Suitland areas, and which they believe may have been committed by the same suspect(s).
Details of the most recent sexual assault are as follows:
On February 19, 2008, at approximately 8:35 p.m., officers responded to the 9100 block of Baltimore Avenue for a report of a rape at a location in Suitland . Upon arrival, officers interviewed the victim who advised that she met the suspect on a chat line and agreed to meet with him. When the victim met the suspect, he produced a handgun and raped her in the building stairwell. The suspect then fled in an unknown direction of travel.
Major Dan Dusseau, Commander of the Criminal Investigations Division, said “We want to alert women who are soliciting for sex online to use caution. Stranger rapes are uncommon in the county and all of these were stranger rapes. Descriptions from re-interviewing some witnesses helped us realize the connection, including the fact that several victims met their attacker online.”
Anyone with information should call the Prince George ’s County Police Department’s Sexual Assault Unit at (301) 772-4908. Callers wishing to remain anonymous may call Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477).

Thanks for posting. Women have to be careful meeting new people under any circumstances.
Doing these meetings in very public places, with others knowing your whereabouts, and carrying a cell phone are all good ideas.
Just a little healthy concern is needed, not paranoia.
Thank you "wonder" for caring enough to share the warning.
Peace, Pam
