It's been a while since I've seen this, but I believe when you choose to save them they are saved to the root (C:\), but I can't remember the naming format offhand. Normally this is data from an opened program that wasn't saved prior to the computer losing power. I used to just delete it from scandisk.

They do end up in root (C:\) and over time can eat up a bit of acreage. Delete them, %99 of the time they can't be used for anything anyway.

No- IE 7 will not work with a 98 machine. You need to have Vista and a machine that can handle Vista.
