Please look in your EXTRA pile of stuff, and see if you have a** hard drive** that you can share,& send to me for installation. I am assembling a computer for a member of DH that is housebound, and has an OLD 1996 computer. I think you read her plea for help for an older machine today...how about we just get her updated and running?
I have the flat panel monitor, keyboard and mouse, and the computer. It just needs a new hard drive. I will be able to package it all together and send it to her, ready to
plug and play with the help of one of our DH members here in the tech room.

Thank you...so much...
I will send you the mailing address for the hard drive.
We can handle the Windows license...and get it all packaged up...
This can be a great opening for Spring.
Thank you DH friends...we can make this an active, fun group!
Anyone have something to share...great programs, or maintenance tips?

We could use some PC 133 RAM, and DVD drawer...(we have CD only).
We could use OFFICE, perhaps...
thank you so much for participation...we all can get together
and help people in need...all of us have STUFF hanging around...

I have heard from our DH member...
she is using windows 95.....oh My Gawd....
she is in for a wonderful new world..
She owns no programs that I know of,
which will work with Windows XP.
I need an OFFICE program, if you have that thumperz...
and anything elce you want to add to the pot...
How can we safely communicate with each other...??
I do not want to post my phone number on the internet, of course.

update:..
Geoff and I mailed out the complete computer package to the DH member needing help
last Saturday. It went UPS and will arrive at her home on Monday May 19th.
I want to thank Dave for the hard drive, and anyone else that sent parts or software product keys to Geoff. Geoff built her a custom computer with Vista HOME edition, fully updated. He installed OFFICE for her. He installed Picassa for her photo handling.
Her new machine, is amazing! 8 USB ports, a DVD Drawer/drive, a CD, ethernet port,
a modem , as she has dial up service last I knew, and all the whistles and bells.
Flat panel monitor which will take up less desk space for her, USB keyboard and mouse.
This computer is A M A Z I N G..she is artistic, and I KNOW she will love the
look and feel of this VERY FAST machine. I will let GEOFF give the details
as to what he actually installed...
it just brought tears to my eyes as we
were boxing it up for sending...Geoff was very generous in time and materials.
Thank you to everyone...
this was a DH community project!

I just read this thread for the first time. I would like to take this time to thank you all for helping out a fellow member. You went above and beyond the call of duty. It's people like you, that makes me proud to be an American!

thanks Vet. The pleasure was all ours...she was using windows 95.
(yes 95..I cannot even imagine!) This will be like a horse and buggy,
to a fast sports car.
I cannot wait until our DH member opens the box....
and has someone help her set it up...you know lifting a heavy object
can be difficult for some of us.
I would die for this computer!!! Geoff did an amazing job...and provided
all the software, case and labor, as I have learned.
Dave provided the hard drive.
If anyone has access to other things she might need,
in the way of software,
please help next week.
I do not recall that she owned a web cam...
maybe that would help her see her family members, or someone on DH.
Reaching out to assist each other is really fun!!!

Wine, I have an extra webcam if she needs one. Plugs in USB and very easy to install software
It's a LogiTech. Let me know if she can use it and I'd be happy to send it along.

Oh I had another email yesterday offering a web cam...
you guys are great.!!!
Her computer will arrive tomorrow..May 19th...via UPS.
I hope she is looking in at the forums, and write you if she already has
a web cam....and she does, can we halp another person?
We can act as a group...
Do you guys know about FREECYCLE?
do FREECYCLE on your google and look for your city...
We are exchanging and giving away a lot of stuff in my area...
rather than filling up the land fills...
there is so much stuff other people would be delighted to have...

I open the carton and took out the computerHD of the box
and the side of it where it is clear, the plexiglass is broken,
I wanted to hear from from you if that happened in shipping.
I have not set it up yet because of it, the only name I found on it
is ALUMINUM. It's a real pretty computer I am using the monitor, it's great!
I tried to email you again but it seems they don't go through more than
half of the time.
I really hope you find this. Darlene
