Hi, Anyone else watch the Biggest Loser TV show? It is great that the contestants are losing so much weight, but I am not sure that such rapid weight loss is healthy. Healthy and sustainable weight loss is 1% of your body weight per week (1-3 pounds at the most). I am not sure how losing 12 pounds in a week is healthy! Thoughts?

I love The Biggest Loser! I think it is an incredibly motivational show! I need a "Bob" and "Jillian" in my life! I went to an open call to be on the show last year, but was not chosen!

I've watched biggest loser and found it to be very motivational but I have heard that the contestants did some crazy things like using diuretics, not drinking water, etc. right before they were weighed. I don't know this for a fact it is just something I read somewhere. Getting enough protein is important so you don't lose muscle. Also important is changing your lifestyle so that you can keep eating the same way you did to lose the weight when you reach your goal. I was on the "you name it I tried it diet" for most of my life and I'd always be on a lose-gain cycle. I even spent a lot of money to buy the pre-packaged meals but they were tasteless, expensive, and then I had to cook another meal for my kids. When I was through with their program there was no way I would ever purchase another dehydrated meal to stay on the "maintenance program." I was just glad to eat real food. I was a single mom in college then and gained it all back. Ten years ago my daughter bought some products to help her lose weight and that was one of the best things that happened to us. She lost 83 pounds and has kept it off all this time. Her asthma improved so much that she was able to get off 2 of her asthma prescriptions. I lost 50 lbs at a time in my life when most women gain weight -- I lost weight. My daughter and I still use the same products that helped us to lose weight because we like them and how we feel. I've helped others lose weight and some are successful and some are not. It really depends on if they are serious about the weight or if it is just wishful thinking. I know people find all kinds of ways to lose weight and I don't mean to put anything down -- if weight watchers or something else works for anyone reading this then that's great. Life is too short to be unhappy about your weight.
