The Rachel Carson Trail Challenge is a one-day, 34-mile challenge near Pittsburgh, PA. I participated both last year and this year. Has anyone else? Last year I completed 22 out of 34 miles and had to quit due to a heat injury - that really sucked! This year I only took on the 19 mile course. Next year I plan to finish the 34 mile challenge and hoping to do it in under 10 hours. I welcome any training advice. I alreay hike nearly two long and difficult hikes a month but I need something more.
Thanks!

takes more than five words to explain it but i'll do the cut and paste:
The Challenge is a 34-mile long, one-day, sunrise to sunset endurance hike on nearly the entire brutal Rachel Carson Trail. Unlike a footrace, the "challenge" is not to "come in first" or "win", but to endure, to finish the hike in one day.

I did a 32-mile hike...according to the GPS...two years ago, on the Old Loggers Path in upstate PA. I have friends who do (or attempt) to day-hike the Devil's Path in New Jersey each spring.
My toughest dayhike was Mt. Whitney from Whitnet Portal. Only 22 miles but 6000 feet of elevation gain and loss, and obviously, a lot of the hike is at high elevation/slightly limited oxygen. (Whitney is the highest peak in the 48 states.)
