Aug 6 Besides being the day the US unleashed the power of the atom on Hiroshima and Nagasaki Photobucket in 1945, … it is also the day, 9 years later, that CaptPappy was unleashed upon the world. I don’t think he had quite the same impact!">

If all you ladies think that all sailors are philandering drunkards … well … you may be 95% correct – but that leaves 5% of us that are good, honest, sober, honorable, and “one woman” men!

I’m in that 5%!

I’m about to start a new position in New Orleans as “Port Captain” which means, baring an occasional emergency, I will be home every night. I’m an artist; I like to go dancing; I like eating out; I enjoy a good red wine with a great piece of beef or with chocolate and coffee; I can cook gourmet meals; I like most music but jazz is my favorite; … and I love the sea.

There’s a whole lot more to me, but if I try to explain, this profile will be 20 pages long. Write to me and ask me how on earth did I include an image in this essay!

Just some of my jazz favorites. I hate those profiles that FORCE you to listen to their music - so mine - ya gotta push the button! Play 'em if you want. Now That's …........ ZAZZ!

“ ‘round Midnight” – composed by Thelonious Monk played and sung by so many jazz greats. Usually played with piano and either trumpet, flugle horn or tenor sax, the solo acoustic guitar here really conveys the mood of the tune.

“Route 66” composed by Bobby Troup and made famous (in part) by Nat King Cole. I’m a long time fan of The Manhattan Transfer – the OTHER side of their albums they don’t play on top 40 radio!

“Take Five” a jazz standard written by Paul Desmond and performed by The Dave Brubeck Quartet on their 1959 album Time Out. No jazz enthusiast would be caught dead without this included in his collection

“Born To Be Blue” Composed by Mel Torme and Robert Wells in 1946 – an incredibly rich and mellow jazz , blues ballad. The many and dynamic changes (changing key mid tune - typical of Torme style) make this as difficult to sing as it is to play!

“Corcovado” a bossa nova composed by João Gilberto (one of the creators of the style), and Jobim -Played by Stan Getz and sung by João Gilberto and Astrud Gilberto. Just a good ‘ol romantic Latin jazz piece! Corcovado – means (loosely) “humped - backed” and refers to the mountain in Reo de Janeiro where the 150 ft statue of Christ stands at its crest.

“Lush Life” An extremely melancholy ballad about the consequences of unrequited love, but absolutely a beautiful tune, and yet another with some pretty dynamic key changes! Composed by Billy Strayhorn, most notably sung by Nat King Cole and later (‘60s) by Johnny Hartman. The best, most recent rendition of this tune is by Nattily Cole on her tribute album to her father, but it’s difficult to find a music file of that cut that can be legally shared. Kodos to Ms Latifah who does an excellent job of it here that would make Nat Cole proud. Stop reading and listen to the lyrics.

“Frim Fram Sauce” another Nat King Cole tune composed by Joe Ricardel and written by Redd Evans sung and played here by Diana Krall What can I say about Ms. Krall except that if I ever met this lady in person I would grovel at her feet unashamedly – I’m in love with her "smokey" voice! (and she aint bad lookin’, either! - oh my, yes!)

“Orange Colored Sky” Another of Nat King Cole’s tunes written and composed by Milton Delugg, Willie Stein; sung here by Nattily Cole on her dad’s tribute album “Unforgettable”

The fact that most of these tunes are Nat King Cole tunes is purely coincidence. It reflects the mood I was in the night I selected them for this player.

Taking a casino boat "Millionaire's Casino" (now "Texas Star" located in Freeport, TX) from Tampa, Fl to Savannah, GA. This was about 20 miles off from Freeport, Bahamas where we stopped for five days to wait out high seas on the Atlantic. Some "job" eh?
"Caribbean Star Gazing" Just an example of my 3D art.
"Self Portrait" Another of my 3D art examples. I never really had a decent portrait done while I was in the Navy ... so ... there you go!
