Earlier this week, we reported that Ask.com has acquired About.com and The About Network. Now, Ask parent IAC has announced another acquisition – DateHookup.
IAC has completed the acquisition of the ad-supported dating site for an undisclosed sum. DateHookup generated over $500 million in revenue in 2011.
“DateHookup has built a sizable and active community of online singles in the U.S., reaching demographics and markets that complement IAC’s existing online dating companies. We can leverage our expertise and initiatives from our other sites to drive incremental contribution, improving an already attractive acquisition multiple,” said Lance Barton, Vice President of M&A for IAC. “This aligns with our strategy of acquiring companies where we can add real value and create long-term growth.”
Other IAC dating properties include: Match.com, OKCupid, Chemistry, BlackPeopleMeet.com, SeniorPeopleMeet.com,SinglePeopleMeet.com, LoveAndSeek.com, BBPeopleMeet.com, and Singlesnet.com.

Digital media holding IAC today announced its acquisition of DateHookup.dating, which it bills as “one of the largest ad-supported online dating sites in the United States” with more than 1 million unique visitors per month.
Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed, sadly.
DateHookup will become part of IAC’s portfolio of online dating businesses, which the company claims generated more than $500 million in revenue in 2011.
Other IAC businesses in that category include Match.com, Chemistry.com, OKCupid and OurTime.com, among others.
DateHookup was founded by CEO Dustin Weirich in 2002 and has grown to become the 6th most-trafficked free online dating website in the US.
The site monetizes through online ads and charges on a CPM basis. The minimum purchase for ads is $5,000 per month, and DateHookup offers only US traffic.
Buyer IAC, started and run by longtime media exec Barry Diller, is listed on NASDAQ and currently boasts a market cap of over $4.5 billion.
The company recently made headlines when it acquired About.com from The New York Times for about $300 million in cash.

I have to agree. Was on a particular site and if one doesn't pay you receive lots of "get acquainted mail". Once you pay the messages stop. Big ripoff. Women can have access free, however, men have to pay to respond to mail.

I KNOW that if this goes the way of 'pay per view', I will be gone. Create a level playing field, ie, nominal fee for ALL, not just one gender, I may think about it. More than likely, not.
Besides, who's kidding who. There are almost as many phonies on the pay sites as there are here!!

Hey digital dog...do you have any ideas of free social blogs or something that we could go to without being as puter savy as you if we get erased? Lets arrange a place on line to meet! With luck we would get time to let special friends private emails. But what about our community that exists because we can get into a thread and shoot baloney back and forth in conversations like this? We need a way to find each other on the net! I wonder tho if changing this to pay would pan out. The major pay ones already have been sponsors for DH. And it is a great intro to the pay sites for folks who arent aware of them all. Lots of competition out there and this is a good site to locate fish. I mean,,suckers...uh....patrons?
