I bought feed from my local co-op on Friday. Nothing new, I always buy my horse feed there. I dump all my feed into one large container inside the barn. Today as my daughter was feeding she noticed shards of GLASS IN THE FEED!!! It looks like a light bulb or something!! I am so upset. Have they eaten any of it? What the hell???? Nobody is open it's Sunday!! No sense in calling a vet I guess, I mean what's he gonna do, what's done is done and none of the horses have acted sick yet. Geesh what's the world coming to???

Mare, Keep a close eye on their stool. If there is no sign of blood, they should be ok.

A few years back I bought some Nutrena feed. It had pieces of blue plastic in it. I was upset and called Nutrena. The rep came out, took the feed, big apologies, told me it would not hurt them and gave me some free feed. I didnt like the whole idea, but my horses were ok and I let it go. Not this time!! Glass is another matter!! I mean, where is quality control? Some damn guy on night shift broke a bulb and instead of getting fired for dumping the whole line of feed just says "Oh let it go, just horses"??? WTF?? I hope that MF can sleep at night wondering where the hell that glass is!!!!!

Well, it's been almost three days and everything seems to be alright. I spoke with my Vet and he said, just watch for listlessness, blood in the stool, and colic. So far, so good..thanks everyone!

coppermare, watch for excessive slobbering or foaming at the mouth. Glass and cheat grass love to get under the tongue. Vet can extract it, but sure makes them sore for a few days
