I was with my ex for about four and a half years. We split in May of 2011, and NOW I finally feel like I am ready to date. I joined a little while ago, just nosey mostly. I spent the last year being happier with myself.
I was just curious if other people found themselves taking time off, or would rather jump into a relationship.

I'm not convinced dating sites actually work, but I figured this would at least get me talking to new people. I am rather shy in person until I get to know someone, so I am definitely working on that. I think that it is hard to find people around my age that can be faithful and honest. I would rather be hurt by the truth then fall sucker for a lie. I say people, because there are girls I have known who don't care what is going on, as long as they are getting what they want. I could never be like that.
Thanks for your answers, guys

Your right. It goes both ways. Plenty of women come on sites jump from bed to bed n say guys treat them like dirt. Thank you.

The best way to get over a man is to get under another man..
All kidding aside it is different for all of us.. Coming out of something long term takes time. Usually when your NOT looking is when you will find someone new.

Some people seem to have the need to be with someone. I don't get it...maybe they are afraid of themselves?

I dont see anything wrong with going on a few dates with a few people right after a break up. im not saying sleep with everyone but theres no reason you have to stay home and sulk about it. have some fun and get your mojo back. going out to dinner with a guy and being in a committed relationship are two worlds apart.

I went out on a couple dates. And maybe it was just because I was with someone for so long, it just felt very awkward. I feel like if I found someone now, I could handle it...but looking back, I couldn't have at that time. I also realize that the way I view people and what I want in someone isn't necessarily what other people want.

A lot of people never come to the realizations that you did and continually question why dating and relationships aren't working out for them. Be patient and honest with yourself, you will find the right partner! Most importantly, don't settle for less than you deserve!!
