I read a book on Smith wigglesworth a long time ago. The guy would pray for peoples healing by smacking them,, im going to look around, this copy paste shows a little about what im talking about. People would come to him for healing on cancer's and he would punch them in the stomach or something and the cancer would leave the body!

“Once he (Wigglesworth)identified which part of the body was hurting, he would PUNCH the patient in that area of the body. When asked why he hit the sick, he would reply “I don’t hit people; I hit the devil. The people just get in the way.”

APOSTLE OF FAITH
Wigglesworth's beliefs mirrored those of other Pentecostals, and robust faith characterized his life. Those who attended his meetings remembered the awesome presence of the Spirit, his fearless preaching, the testimonies of miraculous healings, and his leading them in the chorus "Only Believe." Over and over in his services and in those of other evangelists, the words of this song brought hope to the suffering by telling them that "All things are possible, only believe."

Indeed, he preached that "faith is the audacity that rejoices in the fact that God cannot break His own Word. Faith is not agitation; it is quiet confidence that God means what He says, and we act on His Word." Yet, there was nothing quiet or subtle about Wigglesworth. He had a voice to match the vigor of his faith.

At times he became so filled with joy that his vocal praise could rattle the serenity of the gravest of souls. On one occasion he went to a concert hall for a presentation of Handel's Messiah. When the choir finished singing the last note of the "The Hallelujah Chorus," he roared "Hallelujah!" Shocked concertgoers shuddered at this outlandish behavior. A reporter wrote in the morning paper the next day, "I never heard such a voice in my life!"

One must credit him with consistency in trusting God for his physical health, even as Pentecostals gradually accepted the complementary roles of prayer and medical science in healing. He and Polly agreed never to seek the help of doctors or take medicine but to trust Christ as their Healer. Suffering had no place in God's plan for the believer. Wigglesworth saw praying for the sick as a contest between God and the devil: "I have no word for rheumatism only 'demon possessed.' Rheumatism, cancers, tumors, lumbago, neuralgia, all these things I give only one name, the power of the devil working in humanity. When I see consumption, I see demon working power there. All these things can be removed."

His notion of praying for the sick as an act of spiritual warfare helps account for his rough handling of people in his earlier ministry. He thought of striking a person where they hurt as actually hitting the devil. Although some reported healing as a result, others thought it best to avoid identifying the location of their pain. In one service, however, he met his match. At Glad Tidings Tabernacle in New York City, after he had struck an Irish immigrant woman who had gone forward for prayer, she immediately drew back her fist and shouted, "Begorra, if it's a fight you want, it's a fight you'll get!" Fortunately, calm prevailed and the service proceeded without further incident.

Wigglesworth's services never bored his audiences. At a meeting in Washington, D.C., a young girl on crutches entered the auditorium with the help of two other people. With no muscular ability, her legs dangled with her feet hanging vertically. When he invited those who wanted prayer to walk to the front, she struggled to go forward. Calling out to her, he said, "Stay right where you are. You are going to be a different girl when you leave this place." Inquiring about her condition, he learned she had never walked before. Laying his hands on her head in prayer, the former plumber from Bradford, England, commanded, "In the name of Jesus Christ, walk!" Suddenly, she dropped her crutches and began walking.

In Sweden, Wigglesworth triggered such a furor among the medical doctors and clergy of the Lutheran state church that they denounced his practice of praying for the sick. As a result, the government forbade him to lay hands on anyone for prayer. Undaunted, when a crowd of 20,000 assembled at an outdoor service, he stayed within the law by telling the sick to stand and lay their hands on their afflicted parts while he prayed for them. Many claimed deliverance as they did in his campaigns elsewhere.

I have heard of Smith Wigglesworth for years, but I never had the pleasure of reading any of his books. Isn't it just like the government to try and stop a healing service. I am glad he figured out a way around it.

This was truly a great man. Kathryn Kuhlman is another one.

As a person, Wigglesworth was reportedly courteous, kind, and gentle. However, he became forceful when dealing with the Devil, whom he believed caused all sickness. Wigglesworth said the reason he spoke bluntly and acted forcefully with people was that he knew he needed to get their attention so they could focus on God. He also had such anger toward the Devil and sickness that he acted in a seemingly rough way. When he prayed for people to be healed, he would often hit or punch them at the place of their problem or illness. Yet, no one was hurt by this startling treatment. Instead, they were remarkably healed. When he was asked why he treated people in this manner, he said that he was not hitting the people but that he was hitting the Devil. He believed that Satan should never be treated gently or allowed to get away with anything. About twenty people were reportedly raised from the dead after he prayed for them.

Wigglesworth himself was healed of appendicitis and kidney stones, after which his personality softened and he was more gentle with those who came to him for prayer for healing. His abrupt manner in ministering may be attributed to the fact that he was very serious about his calling and got down to business quickly.

Smith Wigglesworth was without doubt one of the most anointed men of God that has lived in recent times. He was known as the Apostle of Faith, and if anyone deserved to be described as "full of faith and of the Holy Ghost", it was him. He lived and walked continually in the pres- ence of God. And the miracles that accompanied his ministry were of the sort that have seldom been seen since the days of the apostles. People born blind and deaf, cripples - twisted and deformed by disease, others on death's door with cancer or sickness of every kind,- all were healed by the mighty power of God. Even the dead were raised.

After this experience, there was no stopping Smith Wigglesworth. He was a flame for God, and the fire fell wherever he went. He said: "I believe God's ministers are to be flames of fire. Nothing less than flames. Nothing less than mighty instruments, with burning messages, with hearts full of love. They must have a DEPTH OF CONSECRATION, that God has taken full charge of the body, and it exists only that it may manifest the Glory of God. A Baptism into death in which the person is purified and energized..." He was certainly possessor of an audacity, a daring, a boldness the like of which has rarely been seen in Christendom in modern times. It was not uncommon for him to announce in his meetings: "Every sermon that Christ preached was prefaced by a model miracle. We are going to follow His example. The first person in this large audience that stands up, whatever his or her sickness, I'll pray for that one and God will deliver him or her." And the first person to stand, even if they were the most deformed cripple, would be healed!

On another typical occasion, a man came forward for prayer for stom- ach pain, and, commanding the pain to be gone, Wigglesworth punched the man in the stomach so hard that he was sent half-way across the room (completely healed)! This kind of thing happened more than once. Wigglesworth believed in COMMANDING the sick to be healed in Jesus' name. His was an aggressive, holy faith. He was a "violent" man, taking ground from the devil by force. And yet he was also a man of great com- passion, as well as of great authority. The devil certainly felt it when Smith Wigglesworth hit town!

He was a man who walked and lived in the very presence of God. And yet, in many ways he was a very natural, down-to-earth man. And neither was he afraid of issuing the odd stern rebuke. His object was to be in constant, unbroken communion with the Father. He had spent hours and days fervently seeking God in his early years, but later, "Although his life was a combination of incessant prayer and praise, and every word and work was an act of worship, he was not given to protracted periods of fasting and prayer." (Pg 122). Instead, he had learned the secret of being in continuous, intimate communion with God (sometimes withdrawing quietly into himself for this purpose), even when he was in a crowd of people. He walked by faith, and he was "in the Spirit" at all times. This was one vital secret to his success. He said, "There are two sides to this Baptism: The first is, you possess the Spirit; The second is that the Spirit possesses you." (See 'The Life of Smith Wigglesworth' by Jack Hywel-Davies). He had counted the cost, and everything was God's. He was a man who truly understood GODLY AUTHORITY, and he WALKED in it by faith. He said, "'Be filled with the Spirit,' ie., be CRAMMED with the Spirit, so filled that there will be no room left for anything else." That was the way he lived. Full of audacity, full of daring, "full of faith and of the Holy Ghost."

On one occasion, he recalled, "I was travelling to Cardiff in South Wales. I had been much in prayer on the journey. The carriage was full of people whom I knew to be unsaved, but as there was so much talking and joking I could not get in a word for my Master. As the train was nearing the station, I thought I would wash my hands... and as I return- ed to the carriage, a man jumped up and said, 'Sir, you convince me of sin,' and fell on his knees there and then. Soon the whole carriage of people were crying out the same way. They said, 'Who are you? What are you? You convince us all of sin'..." (Stanley Frodsham, 'Smith Wiggles- worth, Apostle of Faith', pg 80). This episode reminds me very much of another bold, forthright and anointed evangelist - Charles G. Finney, who had found after a mighty Baptism of the Holy Spirit some years before, that even passing comments that he made pierced people to the heart with conviction of sin. He had gone on to become one of the greatest Re- vivalists of all time. (He died in 1875).

Smith Wigglesworth placed great emphasis on purity and holiness, like all true Revivalists. He said, "You must every day make higher ground. You must deny yourself to make progress with God. You must refuse every- thing that is not pure and holy. God wants you pure in heart. He wants you to have an intense desire after holiness... Two things will get you to leap out of yourselves into the promises of God today. One is purity, and the other is FAITH, which is kindled more and more BY PURITY." (Pg 125). This one statement contains what is probably the key secret to Smith Wigglesworth's outstanding success in God. And it is obviously a key that is well worth remembering for us also. Another point to remem- ber is that Smith was very aware of the dangers of money, and guarded himself carefully against the possibility of covetousness entering in. He was truly beyond reproach in this area also.

I haven't read that much about him. but I know he was Holy Spirit filled. The Holy Spirit is the one doing the healing, but the person is the one exercising the faith. Wigglesworth had a lot of faith.

I think God uses peoples personalities too. I have seen many people with the gift of healing, and they all seem to work differently. Some are quiet, some are loud.

Smith Wigglesworth was born on June 8, 1859 in Menston, Yorkshire, England, to an impoverished family. As a small child, he worked in the fields pulling turnips alongside his mother; he also worked in factories. Nominally a Methodist, he became a born again Christian at the age of eight.

Wigglesworth married Polly Featherstone on May 2, 1882. At the time of their marriage, she was a preacher with the Salvation Army. Wigglesworth learned to read after he married Polly; she taught him to read the Bible. He often stated that it was the only book he ever read, and did not permit newspapers in his home, preferring the Bible to be their only reading material.

Wigglesworth worked as a plumber, but he abandoned this trade because he was too busy for it after he started preaching. In 1907 Wigglesworth visited Alexander Boddy during the Sunderland Revival, and following a laying-on of hands from Alexander's wife Mary Boddy he experienced speaking in tongues .(glossolalia) Jesus through Smith Wigglesworth raised 23 from the dead.

Thanks casheyes for reading my threads, i think its awesome your so inspired by whatever leads you to mimick everything i do on here!!! wooohoooo

Thats that feminist philosophy, whatever i can do, you can do better!

I think its great how you can put down some person of God, however imperfect they may be, while claiming (in your imagination) your a defender of truth! God used the early settlers to drive out the Pagan native Americans, i believe it was judgement against them for worshipping false Gods, but go ahead Casheyes hold on to your mystical religions!

God uses people, sometimes no matter how imperfect they may seem, the gifts and callings of God are without repentence. They arent there to glorify a man who got the gift, but God who gave the gift!

Jannes and Jambres resisted moses, these were tricksters and magicians, who could perform some of the same powers that God ordained Moses to do with his staff. In the end they lost.

People like Jannes and Jambres were long ago marked out for this very condemnation, to draw people away from the truth! Thats your ministry Casheyes, drawing people away from the truth!

Redeamed certain people should be very careful what they say about the Holyghost.

“I promise you that any of the sinful things you say or do can be forgiven, no matter how terrible those things are. But if you speak against the Holy Spirit, you can never be forgiven. That sin will be held against you forever.” — Mark 3:28-29

Anyone who does this I would NOT want to be in their shoes. I don't know if they have done this or not but I bet they have come close. Please no matter how bad you hate us don't blaspheme the holy Ghost.

Thanks for mentioning Mr. Wigglesworth who was a great example of living in God's Faith.

Here are some quotes from Smith Wiggleworth:

Smith Wigglesworth
1859-1947

Smith Wigglesworth is considered one of the most influential evangelists in the early history of Pentecostalism and is also credited with helping give the movement a large religious audience.

Nominally a Methodist, he became a born again Christian at age eight. His grandmother was a devout Methodist; his parents, John and Martha, were not practicing Christians although they took young Smith to Methodist and Anglican churches on regular occasions. He was confirmed by a Bishop in the Church of England, baptized by immersion in the Baptist Church and had the grounding in Bible teaching in the Plymouth Brethren while learning the plumbing trade as an apprentice from a man in the Brethren movement.

Wigglesworth believed that healing came through faith, and he was flexible about the methods he employed. When he was forbidden to lay hands on audience members by the authorities in Sweden, he preached for a "corporate healing", by which people laid hands on themselves. He also practiced anointing with oil, and the distribution of prayer handkerchiefs (one of which was sent to King George V). Wigglesworth sometimes attributed ill-health to demons.

Reportedly, David du Plessis recounted that Wigglesworth prophesied over him that God would pour out his Spirit on the established churches, and that David du Plessis would be greatly involved in it. Later du Plessis was very much involved in the Charismatic movement.

Wigglesworth continued to minister up until the time of his death on March 12, 1947.

Thank you Slim, i love you brother. Its allways good to bring these things to the forefront!

Jerri, yes id actually forgotten about ol smith wigglesworth, theres a lot to say about him on google! Very interesting. Even raised people from the dead, but shhhhhhhh, thats was only for the early church!

Sunny, wow, you dont look that old! (flattery)......

Those were interesting times. I wonder if that could happen today?

Mat 13:54 And when he was come into his own country, he taught them in their synagogue, insomuch that they were astonished, and said, Whence hath this [man] this wisdom, and [these] mighty works?

Mat 13:55 Is not this the carpenter's son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas?

Mat 13:56 And his sisters, are they not all with us? Whence then hath this [man] all these things?

Mat 13:57 And they were offended in him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, save in his own country, and in his own house.

Mat 13:58 And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief.

I rebuke you yo spirit of unbelief in Jesus name and you spirits of darkness i rebuke you in jesus name, be gone!

Well if Apostles and Prophets are not for today, and healing and miracles are not for today, thats a lot of scripture i have to permanently rip out of my bible or just black it out.

It says Apostles and Prophets were given to the Church, the time period was unitl:

Eph 4:13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:

Until we all come to the unity of Faith. Are we at the unity of Faith, nope! Then Apostles and Prophets are for today. This is probably why we dont see unity, people dont tust the word and nullify it and in unbelief and not in or supporting Gods government!

1Cr 12:28 And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.
1Cr 12:29 [Are] all apostles? [are] all prophets? [are] all teachers? [are] all workers of miracles?
1Cr 12:30 Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret?
1Cr 12:31 But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way.

I guess since some say Healing and miracles and such were only for the early Church, then we shouldn't even desire the gifts? We should also rewrite the chapter and exclude much of these things.

Some are teaching that Salvation at the cross does not include healing!

1Pe 2:24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

Isa 53:5 But he [was] wounded for our transgressions, [he was] bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace [was] upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

Jesus died not only for our sins, but he died so we could have healing also. His stripes were the lashes he took, at the hands of murderers, unjustly, for no sin, the just for the unjust. He bore this so not only could he freely say, Your sins are forgiven you, but to heal the body and soul also.

Did Jesus teach his disciples to heal! Yes he showed them first, then he sent them out to do the very things he showed by giving them power, even before the baptism of the Holy spirit at Pentecost after the resurrection.

Not only did he give them this power to heal the sick he said unto them:

Luk 9:2 And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick.

Luk 10:9 And heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them, The kingdom of God is come nigh

Mat 10:7 And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand.
Mat 10:8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.

So Jesus was clearly showing, that preaching of the Kingdom of God , included healing. That those who proclaim Jesus, should proclaim the kingdom of God and healing is a part of that purchased with his stripes. Jesus told his disciples to do these things freely, at times he rebuked their unbelief and slow at heart to believe!

Yet the some depart from the faith, and teach others to depart from the faith. Saying that only Healing was for the early Church to be established and for the early disciples. Yet above clearly for new believers today, part of the kingdom of God to be at hand is clearly healing, even raising the dead!

Also Jesus instructed his disciples , who later became Apostles, to teach others the very same that Jesus told them to do!

Mat 28:19 "Go therefore [fn] and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
Mat 28:20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, [even] unto the end of the world. Amen.

So the disciples were to pass on the very commission to the new disciples, of healing the sick, preaching the kingdom of God and repent.

Not that we look for the signs as a signal for our salvation, but that it is a part of the power of the kingdom of God at hand.

1Th 1:5 For our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Spirit and in much assurance, as you know what kind of men we were among you for your sake.

1Cr 4:19 But I will come to you shortly, if the Lord will, and will know, not the speech of them which are puffed up, but the power.

1Cr 4:20 For the kingdom of God [is] not in word, but in power.

So we see the todays disciples should have the power of God in their lives, it was a sign! it should be today, those without the power, and words only may be deceivers. The Anti christ will have power, but also his words and ways wont be right!

Mar 16:17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;

Mar 16:18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

Thank you my brother,, I love you also.

Keep up the good spreading of God's Word as The Holy Spirit leads. Satan doesn't want people to know and believe in what God has for us to use against his many devices. That is why The Holy Spirit and His Gifts for us along with portions of God's Word is constantly under attack and mainly by false religious ones who pose as Christians. I'm not referring to anyone who just don't know.

In Jesus Name by The Power of God and His Word and Holy Spirit receive Life and not death.

Thanks for sharing your info Jim. Since you are such a good dirty-data retrieving person,, would you use your skills to post the evil truth about John Calvin and Calvinism and also Preterism and it's fabricators. Of course don't post it in this thread,, but in my Calvinism thread if you don't want to put it in your own thread. Thanks in advance.

Exodus 4:11

And the Lord said unto him, Who hath made man's mouth? or who maketh the dumb, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? have not I the Lord?

So the Lord makes these things, that they may work in mans heart and seek the Lord. Maybe they get healed, maybe they have to suffer and live through it.

Jhn 9:3 Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.

Jhn 9:11 He answered and said, A man that is called Jesus made clay, and anointed mine eyes, and said unto me, Go to the pool of Siloam, and wash: and I went and washed, and I received sight.

So instead of getting the blind and mute and death to wait on the Lord maybe years, till they be at peace in their situation, or get healed, that it would be testimony of the works of God. Some would say Go see the Doctors. Isnt this derailing the faith and the reason they were made this way?
