I prefer a bolt action for hunting. If I could only have one rifle I would have a .375 H & H mag.

I am a lever action fan myself. I guess it could be due to my growing up being a John Wayne and cowboy movie fan. One day I will treat myself to a new Marlin 45/70 model 1895GS (stainless steal finish). I did see a hunting show where they mentioned Marlin just came out with the most accurate lever action rifle in a new caliber. Somehow they were able to overcome the problem of having to use only round point rounds in a spring fed tube with this new round. The 308 Marlin Express with a new Hornady 308 rimmed cartridge with spire pointed flex tip ammo. It is supposed to be accurate up to 300 yards.

I have a 300 mag. and an 30/06, but for the last several seasons I have been using my Ithaca Featherlight 12 gauge with a riled deer slayer barrel with open sights and jacketed sabot rounds. Where I hunt in PA I only shoot a max of 60 yards and usually through heavy cover. Why use a tack hammer when you own a sledge? I will save using my reach out and touch somebody rifles for when I go out to visit my sister in Montana.

It realy seems I like all guns, But Muzzeloading & blackpowder cartige shooting is mostly what I do for fun & hunting, I especaly enjoy old guns like single shots & levers in cartage guns. I have't experaced shooting everything but have with an awfull lot. I stay away from the magnums as I don't have much use for them.

I enjoy hunting but I think the game restriction/regulation sometimes is hurting hunting. Many of us grew up a youths hunting for game for the table, now days regulations are mainly for sport hunters or assuming that people don't need the meat for the table.

I agree and now hunting is looked down on as a less then honorable pastime. Back in the golden years of hunting 50 and 60s everyone well most guys hunted and some schools would be closed for the first 2 days of deer season back in pennsylvania.a kid could walk down the street headed to a woodlot with a 22 rifle or a shotgun and the neighbors would wave and wish us luck. now you would be put in jail and the neighbors would run and hide its a sorry time for our country right now and i hate to say it but it the future doesnt look too bright And the ethicts of hunting and the skill level has dropped considerably everyone seems to go for the newest gagets that do everything for you at extreme ranges even laser and infrared the young people getting into hunting are fewer and they come in with the hitec gear not the skills of old. Well i guess im done venting.---LUCAS

Got nothing agains lever actions, my first rifle, at 16, was a 94 Win 30/30. Had hunted the year before with my uncles 92 Win 32/20. Today I have a 92 Win 38/40. Both 92 are saddle guns.
However I am a semi auto fan - rifles, pistols & shotguns. I've hunted with a WW 2 K 43 8mm since 1959. My quail gun is a mod 11-48 Rem 28 ga, for rabbits I used a mod 11 Rem 20 ga and for ducks & geese a Browning A5 12 ga. I kinda like the hump backs. Wish they had made one in 28 ga.

I shoot a 308 Tikka M55 Custom with a 3x9 German SeeAdler on top for deer. I've got 9 shotguns and favor pump guns in a duck blind or goose pit. I use a restored Ithaca M37 12 GA with a Hastings barrel early in the season over decoys, and move to a Bennelli Nova 12 GA later in the year when I go to 3" mag loads. For upland birds, I'll shoot a Remington Peerless O/U 12 GA for pheasants, an Ithaca M37 20 GA or a Browning BPS 28 GA for quail. ON a skeet field, I favor my old Remington 1100 12 GA to lessen recoil and use my tubed Rottweil O/U for the other three gauges.

I enjoy collecting firearms. My 2 favorite are my grandfathers, that I inherited. A model 94
30-30, bought new in 1936, Win model 12 12guage, bought new in 1937?
Both of the above firearms were bought with revenue, from bootlegging! Also, I inherited a complete still with the model 12!lol

I have many favorites, depends on if I am shooting clays, Franchi Ultra light skeet model 12 guage auto, varmiting , Savage bolt police model in 223 with a leopold, or bowling pin matches with a browning 22 semi auto for rimfire and tied between a model 625 S & W revolver in 45 acp and a sig-sauer p220 auto in 45 acp for the big bore shoots, and then theres nothing like just blowing the hell out of something with a AR 15 with a hellfire switch. It doesn't really matter what I am shooting at as long as I get to smell gunpowder, lol

My dad collected & hunted with Mod 12 winchesters. I got them when he died, but since pumps are not my thing have gradualy sold them off. All but one that is - a 28ga field grade made in about 1941. He was the 2nd owner. He & I both shot it a lot over the years and it still looks new.

My interest in firearms runs the whole range. From black power to the newest out there. Been around them, shot them and collected them my whole life. Have a house full of firearms. Use to shoot about every weekend. The price of ammo has slowed that down a lot. Miss the days of lots of cheap surplus ammo.

With several guns I own, 2 stick out as the best, I like my 22's great little plinkers, but the most favorite is my Remington 870 Wingmaster 12 ga. Was given to me for Christmas back in 1974 and I have killed more deer with that gone then most people have ever seen to shoot at lmao Put a scope on it before they came out with any real mount, so took to gunsmith and had him drill and tap for it Longest kill a doe 250 paces. Yes I would say that is my favorite gun, My boy just killed his first deer with it last year while I was standing right there PROUD you bet

My newest aquisition is a Browning semi auto 270 with a 3-9X40 Bushnell scope. My favorite rifle so far is my Henry Golden Boy 22 Mag Lever action. I also have some sort of collector Winchester 9422 .22 Lever Action that I got from my grandpa when I was 12. He bought it in 79', and the price tag on the box said $419 for the gun. We checked it back in 2000 on Winchester's website by the serial number, and the value of the gun came up at $469, so who knows what it is worth now. I keep it shined up and free of prints and in excellent condition. Only other rifle I have is a Winchester semi auto .22 my mother had and her dad bought back in 1943.

I just added an Excel Arms Accelerator, in 17hmr/22 mag(takes 3 minutes to change barrels).
Addition number 2, AMT Auto Mag in .30 carbine. I put 1 clip through the Auto Mag, recoil is manageable, but DAMN, it's LOUD!
I'm putting together a AR(DPMS lower)in .50 Beowolfe, for a State Trooper friend. Parts should be in tues. Can't wait to try that bad boy out!
Just finished putting the red dot on the Excel, no wind, perfect day. I'm headed to the range!

Never ben a fan of large H.P. rifles except the 45-70 and old large caliber rifles that origanaly used black powder. I like them [the H.P.] from .25 cal on down best for everything. For me a big bad boy is a well made .54,58,or 62 muzzel loading rifle My faverit is a .58 with a 44" barrel that I load with 140gr. SWISS #2 I have two friends that shoot hevier charge's in their .58 & .62 But they have shorter barrels and just want bragging rights I think 140gr. is enough. I should say hear theies are custom guns made to do this and not over the counter for sale guns, and theis are tradinal style, I know about the so called magnum inlines and never will own one myself. And magnum & H.P. stuff is a myth, Black powder is black powder and the substituts are only good if you can not find black powder as it is allways the best so far and though most black powder is pretty good Swiss is the best at this time. You that love your substitute thats fine with me, I am just giveing you straight info about Black vs substitutes, take it or leave it.

If your SSG is not that accurate then your using the wrong ammo or it's you. That is a sniper grade weapon and I have a friend with one and both of us can shoot 8 inch groups at 1200 yards with it. Try custom handloads until you find the right load for that rifle. That is what we had to do and what a difference

Shotgun is a 870
22 is a ruger 10/22

Picked up two new toys last sat. at a local gun show a little differant than most of you seem to have, a percusion fowler in .410ga just over 60 inches long barrel is 44 inches Has ben ortimented on the stock with brass tacks or brass nails and they have ben removed but some are broke off and in the stock yet. Has numbers across the bottom just above the butt plate I'm thinking it is likely a Indian capture gun. all said it is in pretty nice shape. a wall hanger for now but I do hope to use it one day. Lock needs tuned up and it has the stangest pat.breach niple I have ever seen it may be my bigest problem to make it a shooter. The other toy is a custom .22 stock and forend all special, action is stevens favorite fitted to a barrel from a winchester model 52 has a peepsight on the barrel that needs work or replace with something else. Looks like a shooter but will see when the sights are ready to go.

I have a thunderhawk by TC .54cal Muzzleloader. Kinda like a toy gun , but I love it!
It is light as hell, which is good especially when you are out trampin the hills all day. Inline ignition, bolt style safety, and easy as hell to clean. I was gonna prolly end up putting a low power scope on it. Any suggestions? I was thinking 3x or 4x anything more is overkill.

Dude b.p is where it is at. I started with a 30-30 when I wasn't yet allowed to carry a 30-.06. Did that for years till my dad started b.p. I wasn't convinced, and he would tote me just for me for a few years till I opened up to try. Hell you rarely get that long range shot in thick cover anyway, and we get to go in October when it is still warm before they are too spooked by the majrity carrying high power.
