Hi everyone,
I ran across this idea a couple of years ago in a magazine and thought my daughter was a little young. Luckily I remembered it in time to give it to her for her 16th birthday. I wrote letters to all the women in her life, asking them to give her advice, share memories etc. on becoming a woman.I sent out 25 letters and got back 22 in response. I included colored papers and a return envelope. When I got the letters back, I matted them and put them in a scrapbook for her. I was amazed at the beauty of the response. She now has a beautiful keepsake from her favorite people, ranging in age from 7 to 93.I gave it to her at her birthday dinner and my "cool" teenager cried. A lot of my friends are doing this for special birthdays and weddings now, so I thought I'd share the idea.Feel free to e-mail me if you want for more details or a copy of the letter I sent out.Take care.

mizp, that's a great idea. One of my friends did the same thing, except on dating. She kept their responses private, only her daughter(wouldn't even let me read them)was allowed to read them.

10 different women, 10 different experiences, about boys, and men. 200 pages of experiences,
heartbreak, failures, and successes. The information must have been an attention getter. She did comment on what the women wrote about what, and how they would've done different if starting over at 16, was moving.

That young lady, dated her husband for 3yrs before marriage, premarital counseling, finance counseling, and spiritual counseling. They had their first child in 2003, and seem to be the perfect couple.

I will be doing the same thing for my daughter.

That is an awesome idea! Thanks for sharing. I think it's something that would also work for boys. Have the men from your family and church write your son a letter for his 16th birthday.

The boyscouts do something like that when they reach a certain status.... have sucesful members of the communtiy write a letter to compile into a book to give the young man at the ceremony.

I STAY tired.... weekend or not. Of course it would help if I'd go to bed at a reasonable time at night! My ONE downfall is that I'm a night-owl!

Would love a copy of this letter, my daughter is graduating this May, this would be so special to do for her.

For her 16th birthday I gave her the blessings jar, but took the time to fill it up with little pieces of paper (365 actually) and each piece said something special about her, that made her my blessing - so as she went through the year she could take one out every day or whenever she wanted. Some were good memories, some were her good qualities, some where my hopes/dreams from her. i did it on her 16th, my husband died a year ago, she is almost 28 now, and she has still not emptied the jar. But I know that some of the slips that he wrote, that were actually written by him in his hand are extremely special to her.

I thought it was a good idea then, and if she ever empties the jar, lol, I'll fill it up again.
