Although I have 'adjusted' It's still rough to be 'single'. I have had one boyfriend since my late husband (of 37 yrs) Bob died (5 yrs ago of colon cancer). My thought to be 2nd Mr, Right didn't turn out that way after all. But in the 3 yrs I was with him, I called him Bob a few times instead of Dean. Hated myself for doing that...
has anyone else had this problem?? Always the Best, BB

I was married to my husband for 12 yrs before he passed and in that time he called me his ex-wife's name more than onece. In fact it was more like more than once a week. I finally decided it just wasn't worth getting mad over. You know whats funny.........I caught myself calling him the kids names (usually when I was mad or when he did something stupid) and even the dogs name. We are human and we err at times. He never got mad at me for calling him the dogs name, but I did get a funny look. BTW, it was never in a fit of passion.

Thanks for the post, and no, he didn't mind - but I did, as I didn't have any problem keeping the two separate - just felt kinda taken back that I would've done that.
Always the Best, BB

I am still friends with my ex-husband and I almost called him by my late husbands' name.
So I do worry if I do find someone else that it is a good chance that it could happen.
With luck I would find someone who understands and doesn't let it bother them. I remember when I was first married to my ex, he use to call me by his ex-wife's name.
But I figure if someone did that to me, it isn't worth the trouble to get upset about it.
Of course if they did that all the time, then I just might have to ask him if he really knows my name..

Yes widow, I've been through those things with a divorce. But to be widowed, that has to be one of the toughest things that someone could go through.

And I have talked to others and called them by my separated wife's name. I's easier to to remember faces than names.

I agree 100% with luckylouie....Geez...Sometimes I can't even remember my OWN name !
I've done it before...especially within that first five years after Larry died...don't think it's happened lately....and I wouldn't get upset with myself if I did !!!
When I did it the FIRST time...I told the guy that was the BIGGEST COMPLIMENT I could have ever given him....he just smiled.

I have repeatedly been called by the wrong name by a man recently widowed and it wasn't his late wife's name but by the name of another woman we both know. I just got used to it. I called him by the wrong name once myself. I have been widowed 8 years this month but don't ever remember calling someone by my husband's name but I can certainly understand if it did happen.
