I warned you that I'd do it! I told you, and here it is!
Sturgis will be upon us shortly. Not soon enough for some of us though. I thought that I would start a thread with a few different objectives. Information, history, answer questions if I can, give a place for for people to share experiences from rallies past, list concerts/entertainment, encourage people to come check it out, assist anyone that might care to ask.
The official dates for the rally is August 3-9, 2015, so mark it on your calendars!

It's the largest motorcycle rally held in the world. It happens to be held in Sturgis SD and this year is the 75th anniversary.
The town of Sturgis itself is only about 7,000 people. On an average year, they will get 550,000 to 700,000 people in a one week period. This year they are looking for 1,000,000.

I stayed at an RV park in Black Hawk for two months back in 2009. We left a few days before the rally. Nice area to visit. Lots of stuff to see. The weather though...jeez.

Eh, the 12 year old won't be back, I awoke in a mood, so
Expensive, yes, motel rooms can run a few hundred plus a night. There are bunches of campgrounds though. Tent camping runs $30 or so. If you camp at The Buffalo Chip, that price includes the concer for the night... more on The Chip later.
Actually,riding a moped wouldn't be all that unusual. There's everything from vintage Indians to brand new crotch rockets. Most are Harley's though.
Had I been able to get my ducks in a row sooner last year, I'd have made Little Sturgis. This year is a new year though, and my ducks are looking good.

Sturgis is ok. The easyrider rodeo is better if you want to people watch,party,witness the pure debauchery of humanity. Lil sturgis in ky is ok too. Usually way to hot and not as cool as Chillicothe. The riding in sturgis is awesome though. Id rather be up there when the rally isn't goin on. Too crowded.

That's why I started the thread. Get people up to it.
Staying in a motel would be big money. Camping is the way to go. The biggest campground, and prolly the best value is The Buffalo Chip. A tent will run you about 30/a night, but that includes the concerts for the night too. I haven't checked yet this year but they've had Ozzy, Kidd Rock a few times, ZZ Top several times, George Thourogood, The Pretty Reckless, Toby Keith.

I agree with you about Full Throttle. I wouldn't spend a dime in that whiney b*tches place. And the don't have camping, they're just a bar.

You can buy tickets for what ever band is playing on any night at B.C . I did that for AroSmith 90.00a pop
F**KIN Steve Tyler fell off the stage half way through concert. They took him to hospital no refund. Grrrrrr.
As for camping there. They d sell you shade if they could figure out how to do it. Glenco is a good campground a lot like Sturgis city park was before they banned camping there

Papi Hoyle, 75 years ago started the Jack pine gypsies motorcycle club to promote his bike shope, the met in Sturgis the first weekend it August and it became an annual event that grew and grew. In the 70s, some of the fine upstanding citizens of Sturgis wanted to shut it down, stop it. A lot of people camped in the city park, so one year, they decide that they only needed one toilet and no shower in the park. They tore that f**ker UP! Then people were really up in arms. A lawyer in town, Ron Woodruff, had just acquired a few acres East of town. He literally cut the fence wires and started waving people in to camp, and the Buffalo Chip was born. Now the Chip is a small city during Sturgis rally, concerts every night, and not just one band 3 or 4.
Yes, the smaller campgrounds, Glenco, Lampheres are a lot cheaper and prolly wilder.
SO Vi wants a story. I don't have many, but when I was 14 or `15 I was walking down main street one night and there was a guy on the corner that had a sign, one side said "burn them off" and when a rider came up without a woman, he'd wave that. When a rider came up with a woman, he'd flip it over and it said show your tits. NOT a wild story, but when you're that age and seeing REAL girl tits, oh, that was fap material for a looooooong time.

No Vi, they'd have to be custom fit...part of the experience. Sit in my chair and I'll use 120' of rope to make you a top. In fact I just finished making an ad for models to practice on.
