Go easy on the hard shit man!
Take it from me....alcohol & depression is a nasty combination almost as dangerous as gettin' wasted & then gettin; behind the wheel of a car.

Keep on truckin'..... Talk to people, get in these forums, like you are doing.
That's what has helped mend my broken heart. (it really does help) Seems like the more people I talked to, the better I was feeling.
I hope it helps you too.

as you stated, it does take time...I think you want to know how fast can the time go by...it seems to take a long long time. But then one day....you are over it. Getting into drinking is not going to make time go faster, and it is a depressant, so I would suggest a creative outlet, painting, drawing, writing, reading..etc. It will get your mind off your immediate problem and wont cause another one.....best of luck hon. It has happened to all of us ....take care

Broken? Use a cast. Cast away your sorrow, cast away your destitution. Get reborn like the Phoenix and develop a steady, brave heart, and a forceful determination like the Griffin. If absolutely necessary, also get a nosejob like the Sphynx.

I was trying to think of a really funny smart-ass answer but I'll go for a serious one instead, since it's a serious question.
One of my favorite quotes is "the cure for boredom is curiousity." In the same way I think a great cure for depression (from whatever source) is outreach. Depression makes you want to turn inwards and focus on self, and if you let that happen, then it feeds on itself and creates more depression. If you make yourself turn outwards, then you can reverse that process.
My absolute failproof fix-it for being emotionally down is to volunteer. It may sound trite, but it really does work. Find a cause that you feel strongly about and get involved in making a difference. I'm an animal lover so I have a rescue organization that I volunteer with fairly regularly. My best friend works in her church's food pantry. When you see the more tangible problems in the world, and take positive action to try to improve them, it gets harder and harder to focus on your own issues and they seem much smaller and more manageable.
As the saying goes, "I had no shoes and complained until I met a man who had no feet." Put some positive stuff out there and focus on being thankful for the good things in your life, and I bet you'll find you need far less time to get over your broken heart than you ever imagined.

Indulge your sorrow. Feel every bit of it. This was important to you and should not just be cast aside. Drink it deep, remember it all - until the day it's gone.
