Just being on this site and some others I have noticed that proper English (or at least close to it) is hard to find. If someone sends me a message with "wuz up" or "wit dat" or some other crap I just delete. Is sounding educated that uncool today? Maybe that's why I don't have luck on here is because I can speak proper english. Don't get me wrong I can act like a fool too and throw out some real terrible slang. I just thought when you present yourself to someone you want to look good. You know sound educated and sound like you made it through 4th grade.

Kawk that would be American English. 1sirens, no, no one has complained about my pic. My pic has nothing to do with trying to at least sound like you went to school. I so love this site. You get attacked when you point something out. I'm not trying to sound like I'm better than anyone because that is not the case. It just baffles me that grown adults can't speak (or type) properly. I'm not talking about misspellings or punctuation mistakes. I don't have a higher education. I graduated from high school with a B average. Not the smartest in the class but I can put together sentences that can be understood.

Back lit photos = bad idea. Next time have the photographer (you in this case) turn the other way so the subject matter (you again) is using the lighting to their (again you) advantage.

At the risk of turning this into a racial thing; being a black man requires me to effectively communicate on TWO levels; and I do it quite well EVERYDAY!

At work; in the boardroom, I have to be the analytical, sharp, well spoken, corporate executive who's able to speak professionally to my peers.

Around my friends, family, ppl in the hood that I grew up with; I have to speak a different language. I can't take my corporate persona to the hood; it lacks street cred, and in some places where I grew up, it could get you robbed or worse, killed, because they could sense I don't belong around here with that kind of talk.

A friend of mine went to a bar frequented by military personnel. He was having a conversation in standard English with an attractive enlisted black woman. When her black friends came in she switched to a different type of language.

This is probably similar to those of us who had parents or grandparents who were immigrants. We were hearing one type of language at home and another at school. It could be confusing sometimes.

I do love to see proper English on the internet. I am really bothered by people who spell the way that they speak. If that makes me a snob, so be it.

I wouldn't expect you to fully understand, but I'll try anyway.

For example: the way that you talk to your BOYFRIEND/LOVER might be different than the way you speak to your boss; unless of course you have a crush on him too. Ijs

I understand the need for survival and playing the roll of an uneducated person from the hood.

I'm just curious if-as an educated, successful(boardrooms, etc) black man,you feel guilt for perpetuating the ignorance, rather than be yourself and try to lift your community up. Be a role model. A leader.

Is the violence and ignorance that bad, that'd it'd be to risky?

Black people in England speak like white people in England

I never figured out why Blacks in America do the hood/ghetto talk thing...

Some gay men do the same thing..change their voice a few pitches as if to say "hey everyone! I'm as bent as a $9 bill".

Maybe the ghetto talk is used similarly "Hey everyone! I'm uneducated and stupid and hold my 45 sideways!"

I think for some people on this site yes, proper English is hard. Ive seen some profiles on this site that sound like someone from the ghetto that has slang & misspelled words on their profile

I dont sound uneducated on my profile but I do sound like a b*tch & I am a b*tch too.

I dont care how good looking someone is if you sound ghetto aka uneducated on your profile than thats a turn off for me.

I like when people sound educated too

I agree with I just thought when you present yourself to someone you want to look good. You know sound educated and sound like you made it through 4th grade.

Slang talk
Hood talk
Talking black
Is NOT just a black thing; you have suburban WHITE kids who embrace this way of talking, as well as the WHOLE hip hop culture.

I see more & more young white kids sagging their jeans, corn rolling their hair and blasting rap music these days. It's like a movement! A lot of white kids "ACT BLACK" "WANT TO BE BLACK" & will ONLY DATE BLACK.

English is actually very hard on the tongue. The "th" sound is sooooo difficult to recreate. I breakout in a sweat everytime I have to pronounce it. I try hard to avoid words with those letters.
