Another tainted championship.
NFL finds Patriots employees probably deflated balls
NEW YORK – An NFL investigation released Wednesday said that New England Patriots employees likely deflated footballs used in the AFC Championship and that quarterback Tom Brady was probably "at least generally aware" of the rules violations.
The NFL began investigating after the Patriots defeated the Colts 45-7 on January 18. The Colts complained that several footballs were under inflated and the NFL confirmed that 11 of the 12 footballs were under the limit. The investigation started as the Patriots were preparing for the Super Bowl -- which they won two weeks later.
Footballs with less pressure can be easier to grip and catch. Some quarterbacks prefer footballs that have less air.
The NFL requires balls to be inflated between 12.5 and 13.5 pounds per square inch, and each team is responsible for the balls it uses on offense.
Brady said he prefers footballs inflated to 12.5 pounds per square inch. On many occasions, Brady said he never asked for balls to be deflated outside of the rules.
The NFL report said "it was more than probable" that Jim McNally, the officials locker room attendant, and John Jastremski, an equipment assistant for the Patriots, were involved in "a deliberate effort to release air" from the footballs after they were examined by the referee.
The report includes text messages between McNally and Jastremski that imply Brady was requesting footballs deflated below 12.5 pounds per square inch.
The 243-page report said league investigators found no evidence that coach Bill Belichick and team management knew of the practice.

I am still waiting for Rogers and the Packers to be penalized since Rogers admitted on a radio show he prefers balls pumped up. I guess Green Bay gets a free pass.
This is a ref issue anyway. Get some refs who will check the balls and knows which ones have less pressure.

Umm, yeah...... I'd say text messages are pretty damning. It would be enough in a court of law. Were you wanting to see a video? Apparently Brady gave the guy signed game balls and jerseys as well and he didn't want to help in the investigation. Actions of a guilty man.

Frankly, this is stupid at best...I can see if the refs were purposely making bad calls so the pats could win...or someone put something in the Colts water to make the team all woozy..but come on a few inches of pressure is going to f**k your game up to the point they lost by the numbers they did?...next we will say." Why should anyone really care if ( and most likely do ) cheat to win a silly game
People cheat all the time even for the silliest reason as, just to win, so when you look at
the millions to be made by winning the big one, does that really surprise anyone
And since this is CE&Politics forum ....
We elected crooked, corrupt and cheating politicians every two to four years in this country
soooo, again, who gives a f**k about a silly child's game and who won and how they won
In the the " bigger picture of life " ....

Two pounds is like 20% under the limit. The report also found Brady lied to investigators on multiple occasions. He'll probably be suspended.

??????????????? Coming from YOU????? You can see through all the evil in politics, but not the evil in the NFL??? You think an inflated or deflated ball has anything to do with both coaches and both qbs going over the scripts before each game to make sure the mob dont lose no bets. If this is such a big deal, as the NFL has made it out to be,will they now provide a league employee in every NFL franchise who will be the one responsible for sole pregame handling and inflating of all game balls??

Well they changed the protocol for the Super Bowl in light of what the Patriots did. They brought in the equipment manager for the Bears to control the balls for both teams.

Rogers said he gets pissed off when the refs deflate green bay balls sometimes when it is over the limit.
The problem in the new england situation is no official has been able to tell us what the psi of these balls were before the game. If Brady likes balls on the low end of the scale, it is possible that they passed inspection but leaving very little leeway during the game. In other words, a perfectly legal ball could all of a sudden be cheating after one Gronk spike.
If your car manual reccomends tires at 26-28psi and you keep them at 26....any tiny amount of air loss will put the tires below the suggested range.

Things like this just make it a hell of alot better to be a lifetime Pats fan. My brother was a ball boy at old Schaefer Stadium in the early 80's and he met and got autographs of Grogan, Hannah, Morgan, Tatupu, and many others.
Watching other fans of other teams whine like little babies just makes it more sweeter. The idiots thought they had slowed down the Pats with spy gate but the Pats won/loss record is even better after spy gate, just like the Pats played better in the AFC championship after official balls were used.
If I was a Jets fan and caught the Pats cheating.....I would ignore it because the Pats play better when they are not cheating.

Gotta love that Tom Brady in the Superfix. He couldn't throw a 15 yard pass to his reciever in the end zone....so a few plays later the Seattle defense " stood down " and Tommy boy actually threw it to him finally.
NFL teams are " cheating " Does the NFL really think that people are so stupid they actually think the games are fixed and cheating occurs??? Yep...a nation full of average joe six packs.
PS that pass that the qb for Seattle threw that the guy caught at the end of the fix??? It was just a human reaction by the reciever dangling the ball. Wilson was hoping it would get intercepted, but his man caught it so he had to throw a 1 yard interception Lots of friends of mine said the same thing.

The NFL is getting so arrogant and brazen [ like the US Govt. ] that one of these days some goon is gonna run the ball into the wrong end zone, and then have to play act that he didn't know which end zone was his to score?? The perps can always say the goon was on medication for some injury [ fake of course ] and he got confused

NFL finds Patriots employees probably deflated balls
NEW YORK – An NFL investigation released Wednesday said that New England Patriots employees likely deflated footballs used in the AFC Championship and that quarterback Tom Brady was probably "at least generally aware" of the rules violations.

call me crazy but, isn't 12.5 allowed?lol
What was the precise PSI of each of the 12 footballs the Patriots’ offense used in the AFC Championship Game? We’ll probably never know.
NFL head of officiating Dean Blandino confirmed today that the NFL didn’t log the exact PSI of each football. According to Blandino, when officials inspect footballs to see if they’re properly inflated, they simply approve them or disapprove them.
The Patriots should sue the NFL
The NFL has reportedly fired an employee who sold footballs that were used in the AFC Championship Game — footballs that later became the source of the Deflategate controversy when the Patriots were accused of playing with under-inflated footballs on offense.
Adam Schefter reported on ESPN today that the footballs used in the game were supposed to be donated to charity, but that one employee took some footballs and sold them instead.

I have to agree with Stephanie here. I really don't think the air pressure in the balls would have changed the out come. It was stupid to do it because they didn't have to.
The reason the pats are in the superbowl hunt nearly every year is for one simple reason. The owner hired a great coach and allowed that coach to have total control on draft day. Good owners make good teams. Bad owners make lousy teams(see Atlanta Falcons).

Pretty simple math tells us that ya Brady wanted the balls at 12.5 which was within the rules, if you read more articles you will see how the NFL crew is suppose to check the balls and reflate them back up to at least 12.5 before game time and then mark them............they didn't do their job
there are reports that sometimes the NFL over inflates these balls as well
Report: Only one of Patriots' 12 balls were under-inflated by two pounds

That must be why a patriots staff member took all of the balls out of the refs locker room and into the bathroom. The same staff member who calls himself "the deflator" The same staff member Brady texted and the same staff member Brady claimed he didn't even know his name. I mean, come on man. The texts don't lie, brother. He's busted, bottom line. As far as punishment, well like they say, it's not the crime it's the coverup.

again, no one knows the PSI of the ball.......it was never checked the way it was suppose to be.
looking at the wording looks like Brady wanted to make sure the balls were at the lowest legal PSI and since the NFL never marked them ..who would know if they were overinflated as well???

no question the quarterback wants the balls a certain way the NFL failed to prove their case, all circumstantial, if Brady wanted to make sure the balls were at 12.5 isn't that psi within the rules?........and if they are at 13? 13.5? 14?.......???

League has no record of PSI in Patriots' footballs
League has no record of PSI in Patriots' footballs
By Larry Hartstein | Senior Analyst
January 29, 2015 6:17 pm ET
When referee Walt Anderson checked the game balls for the AFC Championship Game, he did not log the PSI. He just approved them.
NFL head of officiating Dean Blandino was asked Thursday if the league has any proof beyond Anderson's word that the footballs were inflated to the required 12.5-13.5 pounds per square inch.
"We did review what happened pregame, and from everything that we reviewed and all the information we had, the balls were properly tested prior to the game,” Blandino responded, acknowledging there's no record of the exact PSI.
"And then there was an issue that was brought up during the first half,” Blandino said. “A football came into question, then the decision was made to test them at halftime. There's an investigation going on, I can't get into too many specifics but really that's the chain of events that occurred.”
The halftime check showed the Patriots' footballs were underinflated. The NFL is trying to determine whether it resulted from "deliberate action." The league has video of a Pats employee taking the Patriots' and Colts' game balls to the bathroom for 90 seconds, on his way to the field, per Pro Football Talk.
But now the league has admitted it won't be able to prove

The issue is there is no proof. Brady may have wanted balls on the low end but still within limits. Like was mentuoned earlier, the refs did not log the PSI's before the game. No ine has a f**kin clue what the psi was. Holy shit, Kraft is going to go ape shit. I would sue the NFL if I was him. The proof on Brady they got would not even warrant a trial.
