I don't think it's a zero-sum proposition. Some people have a knee-jerk reaction of taking things to their furthest natural conclusion to try and draw a correlative point between the issue at hand and the presumptive'end game' (yes, I'm looking at you Rush 'The American Flag is Next' Limbaugh).

Why would there be a need to do such things? From my understanding, there's no public outcry for it.

Well, technically yes: but the prospect of that happening assumes three very unlikely things:

1. There is one single universal set of morality.

2. The majority of Americans can be made to agree on that standard.

3. A representative government would not reflect similar morals to the majority (and thus have the will and/or political capital to act against their constituents).

There is a universal set of morality, and it's really simple.



Do whatever you like, so long as you don't harm others, persons or property.



The main problem is government violates this simple tenant, with its very existence.

If people look at some monument and are moved to believe that other races are naturally inferior to their own, then yes, we should take it down.

Yes, I know that a flag is inanimate, unless it's made from living creatures. Do YOU realize that what a flag symbolizes is NOT inanimate? And that what flags symbolize is what the concerns and arguments are about, and not the fabric they are printed on?

As for "pretending that banning a flag (which has NOT been done, and has not been seriously proposed) will do anything helpful for race relations" being ridiculous, that has not been done. No one is PRETENDING that it will help race relations for the governments of states to reverse their ancestors decisions to build race-based symbology into their flags, and to purposely use symbols of the Confederacy to demonstrate their opposition to racial equality. They are actively and directly pointing out correctly that it will.

And yes, your "positions" ARE mutually exclusive. Not just in my mind, but in the real world. If you were ACTUALLY an anarchist, you would be OPPOSED to governments using flag symbology to declare their support for oppression of the people of their states.

But you clearly SUPPORT the governments continuing to directly support racial inequality, while you PRETEND that you oppose all governments.
