Do men prefer a petite small framed woman in general? Would a petite, uneducated woman be more attactive than a full figured woman with smarts? If so, why?

I have to have "smarts" as you put it, regardless of the body type. In general, excuse this phrase if you take offense, I like to have something to hang on to when the going gets rough.

Before I became an RN I was a theatre major, dance specialization. I was also a model. I received A LOT of attention based upon my physical attributes. I could not walk down the street without whistles, men stopping in their cars, approaching me in restaurants just to comment on my looks. Up until I was 45 I worked out often, rode my horse 3xs a week and went to the spa for those little extras. Since I gained weight and now am a size 16 and a DDD, I get responses from men who only like large chests.
I still lead a fairly active lifestye am still the same person on the inside and by the way, to the man who commented about overweight hating thinner women.. I am not jealous of other women. There life doesnt affect me, so I don't care what they weight or do with their life unless they are a patient of mine.
Will some men all of a sudden find me more attractive if I loose weight? probably. Would it be better to receive superficial cat calls than true love and affection?
So do men ever date women based upon the whole person rather than the superficial package? Im curious.

There's a big difference between "a few extra pounds" and "a few extra hundred pounds."
I prefer women with a little cushion, but some women who call themselves "a few extra pounds" weigh as much as my truck. I am not attracted to women who are a foot shorter than I am but weigh the same or more.
Sometimes, big (and I mean *BIG*) is not beautiful.
And before anyone goes off on me for being mean, I answered the question that was asked.

In my opinion, weight is not a superficial characteristic. I believe that how well someone maintains their physical appearance is an indicator of a number of important qualities. Self discipline, the ability to delay gratification, personal pride and confidence are a few that come to mind.
For the vast majority of us, the equation is simple: Food Consumed - Activity Level = Weight.
There are many beautiful "larger" women who take good care of their health and are mindful of their fitness, but their proportions are simply larger...this is very different from being large for lack of discipline.
I know the question was posed from a male perspective, but I think it is pretty universal. My answer is that the turn on/turn off factor is how well a person takes care of themselves, not just their size.
I have a petite frame (5'7" & 108)and I stay active to keep my body and mind fit. I have encountered alot of passive aggressive hostility about my size from other women. This is annoying and unfair, as I would be regarded as rude if I asked an overwieght person the same questions asked of me.

I married a woman who was not fat when I married her, but that changed rather quickly after marriage. She quit trying because she had her man, so why keep her weight under control. We broke up after her weight exceeded 300 lbs, but that wasn't the only reason we broke up.
I can't speak for all men, but for me, attraction is first physical. Yes, other things are involved, but sight is important to me. A car can run like a bat out of hell, but if it looks like a pile of junk, it's missing something that if present would make the car so much more desirable. A woman who takes care of herself shows respect for her man, and herself. She wants her relationship to be pleasing in every way possible.
I've seen women who are all up in arms about men not noticing them, but make absolutely no effort to take care of themselves. Excuse me, but if you want to catch a fish, you might want to consider what bait you're using.
Another thing to consider is that great running car is going to start costing a lot of money in repairs to the body. Same with a woman who doesn't take care of herself. The woman mentioned above has constant medical problems. Very expensive medical problems, all caused from being overweight. I saw her eat an entire pan of brownies at one sitting. She ate as much as the rest of us in the family ate all put together.
Again, being overweight was not the main reason we broke up. In her case, the overweight problem was a symptom of other much more serious mental problems.
BTW, as far as I'm concerned, it's a two way street.

well good looks dont hurt, but if you cant talk to a girl then there is really only sex, and eventually that would get boring too. beauty is fleeting , but some times so is smarts.

Any way you look at it men want arm charms and plump girls aren't that. Case in point, Marilyn Monroe was a size 16 and in todays standards that is obsese. I'm a size 14 and when I go out I'm one of the last girl in the bunch to be approached. Talk about an ego killer. I thought maybe I was giving off a negative vibe or something so I once asked a group of guys (the guys who hooked up with my skinny friends) their honest opinion of why they like the skinny girls and they said society looks at men who have skinny girls on their arm as intelligent, successful and desirable and a guy who has a plump girl on their arm as settled, married and past their prime of being viewed as fresh . It was definately an eye opener. They then went further and added the part of how old guys go after young women for the same reason,Image.

Well, I'm an "old guy" and I flat out disagree. I couldn't care less about "image", but I sure do like a woman who takes care of herself. Take a look at profiles of women over forty and see how many of them want younger guys. Why? Trophy? Sex? Ego? Got me. I certainly can't speak for other guys, but this one isn't in it for an "arm charm", whatever that is. Like I said above, when a woman takes care of herself, she shows respect for herself and her man. When a man takes care of himself, it shows respect for himself and his lady. Two way street.

Cutegenes007 - Very nicely said.... Wether larger or smaller you can tell the differance of those who are because they "are" from those who are becuase they don't put in the effort....
I prefer smaller women cause i'm a short small guy but a woman who takes pride in herself enough to do what they can to be healthy....is a great quality in anyone

I look at bigger men less than I look at attractive ones...I'm willing to admit that.
But I don't fall for someone until I GET TO KNOW THEM! For me, smarts...imagination....humor...so much of that IS what makes someone attractive to me. A "Nice Body" is only step one.

The more fat, the less attraction... full-figured and fit is okay...
When I see an obviously out-of-shape person (male or female) my initial reaction is "that person either doesn't know that obesity is unhealthy (i.e., dumb), or doesn't care about their health"

I actually prefer larger women over skinny women and the reason is because they seem more down to earth with awesome personalities. And it's not that I haven't dated skinny women or unattracted to them, it's they seem more loving and caring for the man's needs. I can truly say my last three gf's have been larger women some larger then me and some just a little chubby. The one thing I don't like about larger women though is when they complain about their weight that's a total turn off, because they still don't take the proper actions to change not that I care if they lose weight since I met them that way. I guess you have to be a confident full figured women for me to really be into you.

I happen to enjoy a big butt on a woman. I'm a big guy and skinny women intimidate me. Some turn their noses up and think they're too good for me. But, even if I were thin, I would still like a big butt. There is a saying I have, "There is a difference between a woman with a big azz and a big azz woman".. Obese women, although I have many large lady friends, do nothing for me. But a woman with some weight on her and a big-ol-booty, makes me tingle..
I'm not looking for a trophy. Most of that is superficial anyway. Give me a real downhome girl who is nice looking and loving anyday.
And yes, I am chubby. I'm a chef for goodness sake. Never trust a skinny chef!

"Monroe was a size 16" Whatever.... She was a curvy women (and not known for her smarts at the time). That is the definition of curvy not round. It is different strokes for different folks. The fact that people allow themselves to get 200 lbs at 4'11" or 300 at 5'5" is not attractive. Some folks are large framed but they are active and still are attractive. The few extra pounds thing has gotten out of hand. A few extra pounds means 10-20 THAT IS IT, Not 30-100+.
Smart is attractive but I am not trying to eventually sleep with your "brain". Oh I'm sorry was I supposed to not ellude to the fact that yes indeed I would eventually like to sleep with the person I'm dating

I prefer thinner women. That is not to say I have not slept with a thicker woman. She wasn't fat but she wasn't skinny. She was 5'8" 150 pounds... she felt she was overweight but I thought she had one of the nicest bodies I've ever seen. Now I know, I'll get some people in here telling me 150 pounds for a girl at that height is no where near even thick, but honestly, yes it is. I think the ideal weight for a girl is around 100-130 pounds. Ideal height would have to be 5'4 to 5'9. The thing about this girl was that she was a gymnast and she was in shape but was always embarrassed about her weight.

Quote from Cutegenes007
Amen! Amen!
How about Anna Nicole Smith? Although a very beautiful plus size, not much in the brains and look what happened to her.
I prefer slender and petite. I have dated heavier women that would always say they felt they were fat but yet they fail to do anything about it. I never agreed even though I felt they could lose a few pounds. Myself being tall and thin have always stayed active and try to take care of myself and never had a weight issue. All I will say is that if you don't like the way you look and don't do something about then do not fault those women that have. As for the education, It is not fair to generalize that all skinny, petite women have no brains. I don't care if you have a PHD in Quantum Physics that doesn't justify your physical characteristics.

My ex wife is 5'6" & her weight was never less than 140lbs. Sometimes much more, as much as 165lbs at one point. Rubenesque. I always dreamed of her being 115lbs. Even though I thought she was fat I always thought she was a beautiful woman. Sex was never very good. But any sex is good compared to no sex.
I have had long term relationships with at least 2 other Rubenesque women. I was only attracted to their kindness, intelligence & personality. Not to them physically. The sex in any of these relationships was well below par for me no matter what we tried. If a larger woman wants to prove me wrong we can talk about it, but I offer no guarantees.
I have since gained weight myself. I'm currently 5'10" 205lbs, used to be 165-170lbs. I still look pretty well balanced.
I understand some women preferring fitter men over me, even though they'll never know what they're missing.
I much prefer petite, small framed women. I'm wired that way & there's nothing wrong with it.
Besides that the sex is almost always good to great with the smaller women. And I have decided sex is too important to me not to enjoy it as much as possible. Of course that means the woman has to enjoy herself too.
So the answer for me is yes, I am turned off by full figured and larger women. I prefer petite small framed women in general.

Question to the men ... What is your definition of full figured? I see myself as full figured (chest 40D waist 37 hips 39 I weigh 195lbs height 5'9") would you consider that obese or full figured (look at my latest pics)? For the guys who like thinner women have you ever thought of getting with a bigger woman and positively motivate her to work out? I work out 4 times a week and it would be a hell of alot more fun to work out with someone than on my own.

I think that it is the person inside. I feel sorry for guys that can't get past the outside to see who a person really is. As far as physical attraction, I think most guys prefer a woman that is comfortable with herself, no matter how heavy or skinny they are.
HERE! HERE! I wish every guy thought as you do. I'd be more active in my dating life LOL Besides I can lose weight or get surgery but some guys will always be superficial and will never know a good woman.

I've been temporarily over weight due to stress eating during my divorce...However, I am loosing it..I was also on medication for awhile for an injury that also added to the weight gain..I am still the same sweet wonderful person now, that I will be in a few months once the weight is off and I'm back into my regular size..I understand the attraction needs to be there first for some, but what about the personality and character of the individual..just that alone can make someone that is not outwardly attractive, a beautiful person...I have weeded out quite a few men due to the weight issue..oh, they come on like gang busters wanting to meet me in person..we chat for a few or even several weeks first, then I tell them about my weight..I also let them know that I've never had a weight issue and that once it all comes off, I know I wont gain it back..This is temporary...all of a sudden these men back track and tell me they can't go there..so, I don't know if I would consider it to be shallow or just honest..I too have my preferences...but, I also love unconditionally..I married my ex not being physically attracted to his body..he was bone skinny, his ribs showed and his hips and back bones..he was not appealing in the nude, but I loved him and it didn't turn me off at all..through the yrs he did gain weight and looked much better, but I never told him how I felt..He never knew...

I personally prefer thick women, dont really care for skinny women. I gotta have a woman who can handle a big man like myself, plus I am very sensual and to me thick women appreciate it more.

iwould just like to say it must be easy for a male trainer to say women that are overweight do it to their selves, ever heard of menopause? women have no choise, but gain weight. if u are pre disposed to obesity u will be such at menopause. u can eat 300 calories a day exersize every waking hour and u will not lose weight. and as a woman that never had a tummy, it kills me to hear all these males never talk about womens weight gain and menopause, it is sooooooooooo different, than anyone will ever experince. we do not over eat or are lazy are bodies just do not function as they once had. some are lucky and do not gain weight. but then some are unluck stay thin take hormones and develope cancer, well let me see cancer or 20 pounds? hay i got 20 pounds. the whole thing really is the medical profession, they write off the menopausle woman especailly if they wont take hormones in the form of horse piss that usually resaults in cancer. the male race, we are your mother, daughter, wives, etc. how can u let us suffer and die, when we have done nothing wrong, just born and died a woman

I don't know what any individual might think. For me, as a woman that was getting on too many lbs, I realized I wanted to meet a man that cared about his health and nutrition. So guess what, I had to care too. So I began "getting with it" last Oct. 6(2008) I mean I can't very well ask something of a man if Im not doing it myself The real blessing of it all is I like me better and feel great! Like 10 years younger. I may never have a mate but I will still feel good about myself.
Good topic, thank you, denise

This is a thread that I am very passionate about. If you have read the post I started here (Racism in Dating), you can understand why.
Being a black male in America, there is no way I would ever say anything negative to anyone, especially about size. I have been discriminated enough so I would never discriminate based on someone's size. I enjoy the company of women regardless of size or color. Its always been about personality. Of course body plays a part in attraction, but with me its always been eyes first, then lips. Bust and booty has always been the "added bonus", not the deciding factor.
Thats just me of course and I cant speak for my other distinguished male DH counterparts.

Hello Im new to this posting stuff but I also have a response and pardon me in advance if I offend anyone. I am 53 and in fit condition. Not for anyone elses benifit but for my own. I've had 5 children , now grown and married with children. I am also a proud grandma of 16. I want my babies to be proud of me when they bring their friends to grandmas. I have always maintained my weight thru activity as well as what I eat. I am also degreed as well as a buisness owner and take care of my aging parents, so I have a few cells lol. I believe everyone has good qualities about themselves and things that need to be worked on. If someone is content with being full figured, then that is a wonderful thing. Its not so much of what others think of us but what we think of ourselves. Thank you for the opportunity to post and have a blessed day.

Ditto for me with the weight gain (quit smoking) but I relate to all you said. Tell them about your weight and they are gone--You are obviously a very pretty woman and so am I (actually we are both well above pretty) but it doesnt matter. Being straight up honest, employed and educated, strong, sexy as hell, beautiful all goes out the door when they see your weight--even if it was gained circumstantially and under awful conditions. I am so disappointed with the men I have met all over the WWW and in person.

Thanks for the Post. I myself like a woman with a bit extra body, as well as a brain. I am no spring chicken, and therefore don't expect the woman I am with to be either. I actually have small arms and legs, but have gained the gut that keeps me at about a 40-42 waist. I have never really been that attracted to women that were TOO SMALL, and most don't even give me the time.
So if I had my choice, definately a larger woman. It would be nice to find someone that would enjoy staying active together, and hopefully get in a little better shape together.
Thanks again,
