I have a question. Is the friend list a popularity contest or a conquest for players?

A couple of guys have request me to be on there friends list. I clicked ok to accept and wrote to them. I have either never heard back from them or they write a month later. I went on there profile and noticed all the women who are on there friends list? Some of these guys and I'm sure women are doing the same thing have over twenty friends.

I know this is a dating site and people have all the right in the world to chat with others. But I personally don't want to see all the women I'm in competition with or want to know who they are.

Please tell me why someone wants you on there friends list if they have no time to write to you or want to get to know you? Anyone else have this happen to them?

The friends list is what you make of it. You can’t assume anything about anyone else’s friends list. I learned some of the things that others think and decided to keep my friends but to hide the list from others.

The friends list is useful for keeping tabs on threads started by, profile changes made to the profiles of, and blogs started by your friends.

A friends list is exactly that. If it was the "members I did, wanna do, or am doing right this second" list dontcha think it would be named accordingly?

Ok, thank you. I just don't understand why people would request me to be on there friends list and never write to me. That's all I was asking.

I have men and women both on my friends list..most of them are people I have spoken with in the forums or met in person and have become good friends with.
People I dont' know who I have never spoken to before that just out of the blue send me a request get no response and their request is deleted.
Plain and simple.
For me..no I don't see it as a contest in anyway..for others maybe who knows..

...the friends list ONLY allows 100 people...yet there are THOUSANDS on here!!!
Friends list is VERY important for when someone has to go INVISIBLE for whatever reasons (usually harassment)...only their friends can contact them at that point!!!

Thank you Washingtonbound. I agree with your reply. I should have never accepted to be on the friends list if I have never spoken to them previously. I appreciate your input.

All I can say is that everyone uses Friends' Lists for different purposes. I never could buy into the whole myspace mentality which it reminds me of. I have my list hidden so it doesn't offend anyone of who is #1, and so it doesn't look like I am a collector. I have rejected friend requests from people I had never really conversed with.

I love my friends on my friends list and thats just what they are friends and good mates...They shouldnt pose a threat to any potential partner ...My friends and I keep in touch both on here and private emails chats etc..They are people I have had the blessing to meet in my life and we are supportive to each other... I am grateful for my friends...And I will be even more grateful for my partner if and when he comes along....

I agree with kasey if someone is harassing you they might also be harassing your friends as well so going invisible not only protects you from them but also your friends

Would you mind moving to my left just a little, I find myself craning my neck for some reason trying to see just a little more.

---

I've not tried using the friend thing yet. I agree with the idea of seeing all those people and it being more like a competition. Favorites sounds more useful as pointed out.

I find it annoying when someone I don't know makes a "friend" request. Unless I've written someone over a period of time my profile states asks that you "not" make a friend request.
