I met this guy and he continued to tell me he was very sweet. I thought that was very odd. So, I said don't you think that should be determined by the other person? I also said actions, speak louder than words. Well, after meeting with him 4 different occasions, I noticed he became ruder and more abnoxious. Hmmm! Is that statement a red flag? Has anyone else experienced this?

Yes I have. I've noticed the more a man tells me how nice he is, he is usually the wolf in a sheepskin.

Well a rule of thumb is any time anyone boasts or tells you something about themselves, they are usually just trying to convince themselves that it is true. Those that are truly "Sweet" or good, or nice don't realize they are. It is their personality. Same with those that brag about things they are good at. Or ladies who hasn't heard someone brag about how good they are in bed.

It seems to me whenever someone feels the need to say that they are one thing or another that is the trait you have to look out for. I have found when someone claims that they never lie or keeps telling you how honest they are, that usually indicates a liar. I had an old boss who always felt the need to "tout" how ethical she was. I found that odd, if you are ethical, why would you have to tell everyone that wouldn't that just show? Well, they are up on ethics violations now... go figure!

He said he was sweet so it would deter you from breaking his heart. He got rude and obnoxious because he was defending his heart. Woman arent always so abrasive if they think that it will deeply hurt someone. But then again I just had my heart shattered and I treated her well.

Seems you found out the real person under the sweetness he tries to portray. Guess he wishes he really is just that...seems he needs to convince you as well as himself. <>

I understand what you are saying and I agree with what others have posted, BUT....

In my situation, a lot of men and women say "you are such a sweetheart". So is it wrong to tell someone that is how I am mostly preceived and am told? Really....what's your opinion? I don't see myself as "sweet" and sometimes get tired of hearing it, but what if others say it all the time? Does that make me "not sweet" in your eyes because I would describe myself with that word? I am really curious now that I see the comments posted.

Zeanah, you are told that by others. Do, you tell a guy you just met. I'm a sweet woman. I'm so sweet, I'm one of the sweetest people you'll ever meet, than treat them like crap and disregard their feelings?

When someone makes a point to express their own opinions of their self in that way.......I tend not to listen and make my own assessment over time. I also tend to tell someone who braggs on themself to "get over their ego" "its not becoming of them"! But that's just me!

Zenah,

I agree if you were told by others that you are sweet that is different than trying to convince someone that you are sweet. Sounds like you are good!
