All you alone people get down to the Salvation Army and get serving soup up to people less fortunate than yourselves and spread some good will to all men!!
That is not as easy as it sounds.... in my area it takes planning and signing up well in advance... some times months or more. Maybe just showing up and SHARING a meal with someone less fortunate.... good conversation and make them feel like someone cares about them. Hey.... maybe even better then standing BEHIND a serving line

Well--we have to work the holidays--so the citizens who need help will be our extended family for the day---the people I work with will make it as nice as possible between calls. The local big name hotel will do the annual buffet for the "working on duty" police, fire and EMS people. Some of us will work the shifts that some of the married staff would like to have off. So it may not be very traditional--but it is our very own version of how we do christmas HERE. NOW--pay attention--if you really are looking for a way to spend a few minutes with the biggest bunch of fun people in your town or city--find the firehouse closest to you--stop by and say HELLO and everybody will be glad that you took a few minutes to meet us. If you can't do that--we all wish you a pleasant holiday season--and please be safe. And get on the computer and do some chatting--we will be here like any other day.
Fire Houses are Fortresses!!! I needed to get some information a while back....and I did not find the Fire Department particularly open to the Public. The Men were very nice to me however... but it was not really a visiting type situation. No receptionist etc. It was like walking into their private home. Anyway, they were very kind. I asked one of them if they come across hearing impaired people often, and he said occasionally. I am deaf, and it absolutely scares me to death to be in an emergency situation and not know what was happening!! I said the most important thing to do is, and I paused..... and he stepped right up with the absolute correct response and said "touch" and there after every time he said something to me he would give me the kindest touch as emphasis. A wonderful man!! Emergency people are the BEST!!!

I do not have a significant other to celebrate Christmas with (it's been 6 years of that), but I will not be alone by any means. Most years, I'm alone from about 9:30am Christmas Day when my son goes to his Dad's, but this year my Mom's doing a big dinner, so I'll be going over there. I have a big party Christmas Eve with all the family and friends (including my ex and his g/f and her kids) and travel Boxing Day to see extended family. I actually enjoy being alone on Christmas Day with all the activities before and after it. I guess this year it's only going to be for a few hours.

PLEASE READ---a posting made a very good point about your local firehouses. There are thousands of firestations in the U S. Some are career--full time and some are volunteer. Volunteer stations may not have any people there until they are called out. But paid "full time" firehouses are staffed and unless they are on a call--they should be there. NOW GET THIS--the laws in the U S dictate that "all firestations"are to be LOCKED--to prevent theft and destruction by terror groups. You may not read about it--but there are incidents involving stolen fire vehicles--ambulances--related equipment, etc. So please be patient--look for a front or side door--there is probably a door bell or someway of getting assistance. I really can't spell out how it works in EVERY town or city. But I know if they are there --you should be able to get to see them. Thanks again from a firefighter who knows and appreciates when we get visited by the citizens in our neighborhood. All you can do is give it a try--THANK YOU so much!! Have a safe and happy holdiday. HEY bring a camera if you want to--bring the kids---its a real nice place to visit and learn some stuff.
