Good to see folks, been buried under with work the past week or so. Had a great date last weekend with the guy I have been seeing, met a platonic female friend of his. She was nice, sounds like she is very intelligent and has a decent practice as a therapist, but a little too New Agey for me. We went to this local swap meet and I found a granite guy I will hire later. Brought home a sample and it is gorgeous (sand color with alot of rust, gold, silver and black). We saw all kinds of cool things like a kit car, Mercedes version of a Smart Car, modular home (I loved it and there are some places opening up here where you can buy the lot for 99 years), really cool rustic wood furniture, metal art, jewelery, clothes, purses, belts, belt buckles etc etc. This is the first guy I ever dated that seems to like to look at stuff that I like to look at. One of the things we also saw were inflatible kayaks" - Boat in Bag. He wants to go to Morro Bay for a weekend and kayak and asked me if he should get a double or a single. I said single.
I don't think I want to be responsible to tipping the two of us over. I'd think we would have plenty of togetherness up there where we don't need to take risks with tipping over? I have never kayked before and he is going to teach me. I can ride a bike, roller skate, and water ski so I am hoping my sense of balance will be good. Has anyone done this on a date and how did it go for you?

I've gone canoeing but never kayaking. Hey, is this the same guy from before, did he make his decision yet? As you are still dating him, I am hoping he chose you the future and forgot the past. Sounds good!

I've gone whitewater rafting on a date before lol... Something that the other person has to be willing to do I must admit, but it was a great time for both of us.

LOL, I have not kayaked on a date. But, I kayaked a lot in Hawaii, and you are only going to tip over if there are big waves and you don't ride them right. You will be fine inlass. And if you tip, you tip. It is part of kayaking the ocean. If you are kayaking the ocean?
Oh, I miss it so bad. I so want my own kayak to strap on top of my car and head your way.

Yes, this is the same guy. We are no longer FWBs we are in an exclusive relationship and will see where it takes us long haul (or not). I found out alot about the ex and it sounds like am the polar opposite. He is still amazed that there are still women out there that won't "shack up" with a guy.

We won't be far away...going to Morro Bay probably in March. He wants to start off doing some ocean kayaking here right off Laguna. I told him it had to be calm water. Should I get a wetsuit?

An
Absolutely! Being an advet kayaker, I never go out in the ocean without one. If you get tiped and can't manage to haul yourself back into the kayak it'll keep you warm enough and long enough for help to come. You have taken the safety courses for Kayaking?
If not, advise you do so, it could well save your life and teach you how to get back in, when tiped.
Have fun, and enjoy the scenery and best of luck... hope it turns out... that's with this new man in your life.

In lass go... make sure that the river is full though , don't go in summer unless you
know for sure the river is higher.. nothing worse than bottoming out, and having to drag or carry it till the water is deep enough.. also its dangerous if the river is low, you will hit more rocks on the rapids.. and can get turned over more easier..
what ever you do... do it... you will love it... and wear a helmet and life vest...
can't wait till you come back and tell us about your trip.

Yes, if you are going kayaking in March in Morro Bay, you should get a wetsuit. Laguna waters are pretty warm aren't they?
Having spent 12 years in Hawaii, I hear you. I just thought you might be acclimated to your waters. I wouldn't even go near the water in Morro Bay or any other central coast beach.
Have fun, and think of me.

Since being in Hawaii and the Mediterreran, to me the Pacific is just plain COLD even in Laguna. So, I think a wet suit is in order. Going to go shopping for one tomorrow. Also will pick up a life jacket and paddles.

Hope your friend knows how to read navigational charts and that includes the tides and currents. Being close to shore can be sometimes more dangerous than out on the open water.
