I've always been the type to provide for a family if that ever materialized. Unfortunately, it didn't(family). I don't think the idea that women be subservient to men is the populous opinion and for that reason, this thread may be somewhat mute. But, there is a shrinking population who still idealize this very thing. I'm actually within that shrinking populous. But, there again, it's a small group!
Women today are leaps and bounds different than the days of "Leave It To Beaver" ideology.

Women are definitely different than they were in the Leave it to Beaver Days, and since it is very difficult to make it on one income, we have to work and try to be as successful as possible whether married or single, so I think that is a big part of the reason for the change. We have had to learn to be independent due to life circumstances much of the time.
However, I do think there are a few of us left with more traditional values that are not all about money, going out to the clubs, and cheating. I am very traditional in my values and preferences, and that actually makes it more difficult in the dating world because so few are like that or want that. It seems to me like the majority of single people are out to have fun, and even the ones that are looking for long term have been promiscuous and are interested in the physical aspect of a relationship long before I am. I am one of the few that got out of a nearly 20 year relationship who has been looking for the right person to spend my life with rather than "whoo hoo, I'm free and single, where's the party?". I am not interested in dating more than one person, and never wanted to sow the oats I never did before (because I was with my ex from age 18 to 38). I just want the traditional (dare I say normal?) life with a partner, kids, pets, nice home, and good career. Even sexually, I am conservative, and am turned off by some of the wilder things mentioned in other forums. To each their own, and I certainly don't judge, but I think we need to each find someone with similar values and outlook on life. A man who is more traditional should seek out a woman like that. We definitely do not have any right to try and change someone to our liking.

I said I don't HANG in bars. I'm not a bar fly. I go to a bar with friends on vacation, or on a date, etc. I don't "hang" in one.

I am older... I also not only raised my two children(his) but also my husband of 30 years three kids by a previous marriage, worked, cleaned, cooked, went to the laundry mat with 5 kids in tow(cause he was too cheap to buy a washer and a dryer) performed my wifely duties as he deemed an obligation, layed out his clothes, ran his shower, took his abuse,helped him to run his company only to be cheated on 30 years later (there's no telling how many I didn't know about).Playing the Donna Reed crap to the best of my ability and for what? He hung in bars, cheated, drank, and pretty much was just a piece of s--- for 30 years but I hung in there for all the old fashioned notions you are talking now... It's a crock as far as I'm concerned... Do I have a man? No!!! It's because I choose it to be that way not the other way around...

I think a woman should do what they want to do as far as the relationship is concerned. It's 2009 not 1909. However, with that being said I feel that all things should be equal, barring certain things like the fact that men can't exactly carry a baby.
With the exception of cooking and looking out for the kids my late wife was perfectly happy doing housewife stuff and only worked when she wanted to spend a significant amount of money. Being a trade attorney meant one or two months of work and she was set for the rest of the year.

I was a leave it to Beaver mom,cooked, cleaned, raised the kids, was on the school committees, taught Sunday school. Didn't cheat. Did preschool from our home so he wouldn't have to work so hard to support us. Reality is that many men don't like to lead. Don't know how to care for a family and be faithful or spend time with the kids. Many unexpected things happen.
Now I don't mean all men but I am saying it is getting as rare as finding a woman like June. June Clever didn't have to worry everyday if she was going to be raising children suddenly on her own. Marriage was for life. Divorce wasn't even considered. The world changed. People got over sexualized, money focused and stopped valuing family. Women have to raise their children and support their self all of a sudden quite often now. Not to mention how many women didn't grow up with a dad in the house. Etc. Plus age and second marriages etc it is hard to be that attentive to the house etc. I can't do what I did when my boys were little.
I honestly talk to single women who can't imagine being chaste for a month as an adult let alone tell they find a man worthy to be a husband and commit to for life. It blows my mind. Like it isn't a slip up a moment of weakness but a open choice to give away oneself to people that are almost strangers. It blows my mind. Again it isn't every body.

First things first, why is it that so many women I know are miserable all the time? I am not just talking about the ones I have dated either. I am talking about most of the women I know. Sure, they smile and laugh and appear to be happy, but they just aren't when compared to my male
friends. Hell, the guys can lose jobs, girlfriends, money, cars, body parts, you name it, but when any sport whatsoever comes on TV...Bang, they are in clover. Women on the other hand can have everything they ever wanted out of life and oft times more, but be absolutely miserable. I don't get it, what is going on here?

First of all, how can you say woman have what they all want are are never happy. Do you really know what they want?
Secondly, I grew up in a family without a father. He left, he cheated. My mom had 2 little kids and never worked. She worked 2 jobs her entire adult life to take care of us. She said to me and I never forgot..........never depend on anyone to take care of you, always be able to take care of yourself.
I was married for 22 yrs, my ex was very controlling. I lived with that for my kids. At the end of the day, I am caring for myself and the kids. What in the hell would I be doing now if I had stayed at home barefoot and pregnant?? I would be living on welfare!  You can't generalize people and situations. Everyone is different.
To top it off, if woman are looking to be taken care of, we are called gold diggers. You can't have it both ways.

I think that a woman can have a job and some independence and still be a good wife and mother. There is a certain satisfaction that comes with working. You get affirmation in doing a job for which you get paid (Be it your paycheck or some sort of recogonition or even the completion of a project) and that helps to make you confident and helps you to grow as a person. Often when you stay at home you don't get that. The job is endless you do laundry only to find more laundry it's an endless cycle and are hardly ever really appreciated for all you do. I have done both and am thankful to have been an at home mom when my children were young. I am also thankful for the chance now to be outside the home and continue to learn and grow as a person.
If a woman enjoys staying home instead of working that is wonderful and she should be appreciated for all that she does. And if another woman would prefer to work that option should be open to her. I dislike the idea of generalizing and saying all woman should do one thing or another. I am glad to be living in this time preiod and am thankful that my daughter will have a choice. I would look for in a partner someone willing to support me in whatever choice I made as I would be supportive of him in his choices.
On a sidenote I don't thinking being on a dating site is a negative thing or makes you a bad woman. I often see posts stating if you are a good person why are you single and on here. I fail to see the connection.

I think that you are missing that it is an inner gratification. I for one am not comparing myself with anyone else. But I do get self satisfaction from accomplishing goals I set for myself and there is a certain amount of satisfaction from earning an income.

Excuse me this is ridiculous there are good old fashioned women out here. But some men wont allow us to be. My ex husband wouldn't provide for me and my children so someone had to get a job and support us. Then he went out and found another women who gave him all her time while I was working to make the money plus doing all the housework, cooking and raising my kids. The second time I took the plunge I tryed to do the smart thing and keep a job cause my kids werent his responsibility but he was nothing but an alcoholic I had to babysit all the time and I couldn't get no sex or emotional satisfation from him. So it works both ways ARE THERE ANY GOOD OLD FASHION MEN OUT THERE TO KEEP A GOOD WOMEN WHO WILL TAKE CARE OF HER MAN RIGHT AND NOT CHEAT AND LIE??????????????? All relationships do not end because of cheating. An equal relationship would be awesome but let's be for real here guys. At the end of the day, there are so many men that think that woman should stay barefoot and pregnant, not make the same money as a man in the same job, she should sit at home and be controlled.......
In reading these forums, I have only seen a few men that don't think that way. I am not trying to generalize but go back and read some of these posts. Maybe it is just the topic, I don't know. In this day and age, with the economy the way it is, you really need two paychecks to survive. Most woman can not stay at home as in the past.
Reality is..........this isn't the 1960's anymore. The world has changed and we need to learn to adapt to our environment. We need to find a way to be happy with what we have, go after what we need.
I have seen where parents take off and leave their kids. Not just the men, woman as well. The custodial parent is left struggling. Why? My ex and I rarely fight but when we do, I say that I am not the only one that had the kids and I am not the only one that was married for 22 yrs. At the end of the day, I provide 99.9% of their support.

Actually, it was invented so that men could 'own' & pass on property/rights to 'their' sons...prior to that matriarchial lineage was the only way to ensure stuff stayed in the family. It also coincides quite closely w/ the transition to montheistic, male-god religions.

Women’s entire lives and social circles are based around hatred. Do they hate their boyfriends? Do they hate their wardrobe? Do they hate each other? Yes!!, yes and most definitely. Men don’t go in for that silly sort of nonsense. If we’re dissatisfied, we pick up and move out. Or we take our mighty man muscles and lift up mountains so the world looks exactly the way we want it to. Men do more world changing before 9:00 AM than any woman ever has done in her whole life.!!!!

At first reading this thread I was going to agree...but then again..its seems like your only trying to give off the better than you feeling..to make woman look weak from what Im reading...
Like I said in another thread..there is no I in team..to make something last a lifetime you need to work on it....ect both sides need to give in order for there to be any change.
And yes maybe some woman have changed from the old fashioned times..oh well....
Chane is always good in some ways
I haven't lost hope so why should anyone else..
Why don't you prove to me there are old fashioned men out there in my age group??
This can go both ways..think about it.

Hmmmmmmm.....and shouldn't men stick by there women too? I can't tell you how many married men are on these sites looking to "hook up" and say their wives don't understand them.
I don't believe that you should compare women of today to those of years ago. We are out of the caveman days for a long time now....lol. There are a lot of nice women that go to bars to listen to bands, have drinks with their friends and just unwind after a long week of work and taking care of a family. It doesn't mean that a woman is out at a bar to cheat on her husband or boyfriend. True there may be some that do, but there are just as many guys doing the same. I have been approached by a lot of guys that are married saying their wives don't understand them, they won't have sex with them....I can go on with the excuses. Hmmmmmm....should we also say that some men are never happy with what they have?
I think women also deserve to be respected. Maybe if you respect a woman you can earn her respect in retun.

I believe all women suffer from a mild and extremely localized form of Tourette Syndrome. The afflicted organ? Their tongues. That’s why women cannot shut their darn mouths for ten seconds!!!! while adults are speaking around them. Their tongues are battling around in their mouths like drunken Vipers.!!!!!

Well Lukus.... I'm sure there is an old fashioned woman out there that will keep her mouth shut and obey a mans every command. When you find her grab her and hold on because she may be the only one left that feels a woman should be "old fashioned".
